As was the plan all offseason, the Yankees have acquired a former Cleveland Indians high-profile starting pitcher. This was the plan, right?

Rocco Baldelli is expected to announce his retirement on Wednesday and accept a role in the Rays' front office.
Reds and RHP Johnny Cueto avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a four-year, $27 million contract.
A source tells Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com that there is a "very strong possibility" that Andy Pettitte is going to pitch in 2011.

Why would Andy Pettitte be going through his offseason workouts if he WASN'T planning on pitching?
Maybe this is the return fad of older pitchers wanting to come back for the playoff run rather than play a whole season...

Yeah, a lot of people within the Yankees think if Andy comes back, it won't be until June or so, apparently around the time his kids are done with school. Can't exactly blame him for not wanting to pitch a whole season. As long as he doesn't go Favre on us.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Vladimir Guerrero is only seeking a one-year deal worth about $8 million.
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Yankees' offer to Andy Pettitte "is or will be" worth $12 million over one year.
Mark Saxson of ESPN Los Angeles reports that the Angels have opened discussions about a long-term contract extension with Jered Weaver.

And so the Mets' battle for 4th place in the NL East begins! So? That's what we expect. Patience is a virtue. We have a world series by the end of this decade, I'm sure of it.

To give U2 three days to set up their one night concert, Major League Baseball has moved the Mariners-Marlins series from Florida to Seattle, but will still have the Marlins as the home team.
Bud Selig, thanks for reminding me why you should be fired.
Thanks for reminding me that you moved the Phillies-Blue Jays series from Toronto to Philadelphia while still calling to Blue Jays the home team.
YOU FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess Fernando Valenzuela's too expensive, they had to settle for Colon. (They ARE getting paid by the pound, right?)

So if you're listening to Mets fans calling in on sports radio, the organization is currently running around like headless chickens. Are things that dire for the team? I imagine there's some embellishment there, but it does sound pretty serious. So I'd like to know from more rational minds here.
