My all time favorite wrestlers is the late great Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert. If it wasn't for his bridge burning techniques, he would have been known as one of the best minds in the business. He was good as a face, but so much better as a heel.
Show some love for Hot Stuff!

Probably the best nemesis Jerry Lawler ever had, and that's saying a lot.

I'll endorse this thread. Dude was great. One of the first shows I ever went to was back in the era where he had Sting as his 'bodyguard'/sidekick.

I certainly appreciate the guy. Helps that he played a role in Mick Foley's developing career.

Best thing Eddie Gilbert ever did and it wasn't even in Memphis. Eddie was very underrated as a booker.

It saddens me that he is practically an afterthought these days when you consider just how talented he was. I always thought he would have been a much better addition to the Horsemen than someone like Sid, and for better or worse, was instrumental in establishing ECW in its early days. When he had Sting, Rick Steiner, and Missy with him in Mid-South/UWF, they really stood head and shoulders above most of the other guys on that roster.

The heels of today should take a lesson from guys like Gilbert, Adrian Street, etc. Heels today (at least on the indies) are too concerned with doing cool moves then actually getting the face over by creating legitimate heat. Jimmy Rave is one of the few who understands this.

An idol of mine in many ways.
Probably his most infamous moment:

I didn't see much of his work back in the day, but read about a lot of it and I can appreciate what this man did.

In many ways, he was precursor to and, unfortunately, an unrelated twin to, Brian Pillman. In fact, Pillman's U.S. debut was originally going to be with Continental when Eddie was booking there and they were in WCW at the same time (1989-90). Eddie was even smaller than Brian, had a serious wreck when he was in WWF, died even younger than Brian did, and had his run-ins with higher-ups.

That was Eddie's wife and partner in H&H Enterprises, Missy Hyatt.

Actually (and I'd have to go back and look this up) I think they both died at the same age. There were a lot of other minor similarities between the two that I noticed way back when.

Love Eddie Gilbert. Recently (in the last few months) on Vintage Collection was a WWF Junior Heavyweight match from 1984-ish which had Tiger Mask vs Eddie from MSG. Really, really great technical match, with the commentators really putting him over.
