I'll just bring my post from the MMA News thread over here :
I feel like I am taking crazy pills when it comes to Velasquez. The guy hasn't fought any top fighters. His big victory is knocking out a zombie that used to be Big Nog. He looked terrible in the Cheick Kongo fight, he was able to beat possibly the worst heavyweight in the UFC in Ben Rothwell, and now he is supposed to be the guy to de thrown Brock Lesnar? I am mystified by the praise this man receives. I hear so much amazing hype about him, but there is no proof of any of it. You can't go a minute without hearing about "Cain's insane cardio" What Cardio? He's been to the 3rd round one time. Then there's "Cain's great stand up" He knocks out what's left of Noguiera and he's Sugar Ray Leonard? He showed no boxing ability or knock out power what so ever previous to that fight.
I'm not even knocking the guy. I have no issue what so ever with Cain Velasquez. I just can't for the life of me figure out why he is so highly regarded as a fighter without doing much of anything to earn it. I feel like alot of people are drinking the UFC kool aid here and buying into their hype machine. I also feel those people will be very disappointed come tomorrow night when Lesnar wrecks this kid. I'll have no problem eating crow on this if i'm wrong either. I think most of my opinions will still be pretty valid even if he does win.

It's why I'm rooting for Lesnar.

I'm pulling for Brock, loving his title run and hoping it continues. A lot of folks are picking Velasquez, though. The fact that Carwin was able to rock Brock last time is a little troubling. Velasquez isn't going to wear out like Carwin did. I do hope Brock finds a way to win, but I'm about 50-50 on it.
Melzer is picking Velasquez.

I would love to see Cain win but I think Brock will be too much for him. It'll definitely be a tough fight though.

Hard to say but I am going with Cain but it could go any way. It is worth noting that almost every pro fighter is picking Cain.

I'll be rooting for Lesnar. But holy jeeze, I didn't realize the fight card tonight. Makes ordering the PPV a little easier when there are many big names on the card.

I'll make my picks:
Velasquez by 2nd round KO (I think his cardio, power, and wrestling will be too much for Brock, and he'll be the 2nd Hispanic UFC Champion. Poor Ricco Rodriguez.) Shields by Decision (Shields will lay on Kampmann for 3 rounds) Hamill by Decision (Back and forth fight, but Hamill will get the better of it) Thiago by 3rd round submission (Thiago is an elite welterweight. It's a close fight, but Thiago will put the stamp on Diego) Schaub by 1st round KO (I like Gonzaga, but when he gets hit hard he never comes back from it.) McGee by 2nd round TKO (Jensen is a can. Court should make quick work of him.) Cote by Decision (Close fight, but Lawlor will tire out)

Tough call. Still not sold on Velasquez. I remember him having a tough time trying to knock out rothwell. Wrestling wise, Lesnar's better.
I'm having a hardtime gauging him tbh.
Hell, I'll go with Lesnar.

I only occasionally watch UFC, so for the aficionados: how much of a threat to Lesnar is Velasquez? Is he a grappler or striker?

I only occasionally watch UFC, so for the aficionados: how much of a threat to Lesnar is Velasquez? Is he a grappler or striker? Velasquez is definitely a threat, he's got really good striking and speed, and really good wrestling as well. He'll be trying to keep it standing, and TKO Brock.
