Mr. Hughes was in the WWF twice; first, to feud with the Undertaker over the urn, and second as a bodyguard for HHH, and then Chris Jericho.
Both times his run seemed to end abruptly- especially the first one, where he was being groomed for a high profile feud; I don't think Undertaker ever pinned him cleanly on TV.
His second run, I seem to recall a possible NEWZ story of him being released due to being spotted at an S&M fetish club, or something.
Anyway, any further details? I was always a fan of his, oddly.

He's currently training guys down at the WWA4 wrestling school in Atlanta, and doing a decent job of it. I'm not sure, but he MAY be the guy that trained Heath Slater of Nexus, I'm not sure if that was before Hughes' time or not. He also trained CZW's AR Fox, among others.

That's awesome he's still around. He looks really good in recent pictures on Wikipedia.
Still would love to know why he never had a longer run in the WWF though...

I was also trained by Mr. Hughes. Awesome trainer, truth be told. Has put out some of the best students in the country, IMO. We've made it to IWA-MS, CZW, IPW, overseas, etc. In Slater's case, to WWE. Gotten the chances to work so many different people and hang in there. I'd encourage anyone looking to get trained to go to WWA4 and train with Hughes.

I didn't train there personally, but a lot of recent graduates are good friends of mine, and they're all really talented dudes.

I didn't like Mr. Hughes (the character). He just seemed like a big old meanie...during my mark days. I remember him being in WCW as well. I always wondered what happened to him.

He made an appearance for Booker T's PWA promotion a couple of years ago. He had lost a TON of weight.

I thought he was awesome circa 1993 King of the Ring due to him wrestling in a tie and sunglasses.

I was rereading Foley's first book, and the story about how Hughes made DDP look like a joke in his hometown was kind of depressing.
Especially since DDP arranged for all of the wrestlers to eat and drink for free at his nightclub, and Hughes showed up like nothing wrong had happened.

He made an appearance for Booker T's PWA promotion a couple of years ago. He had lost a TON of weight. He actually appeared in WWE around 1999 or so as Chris Jericho's bodyguard (already mentioned in this thread, I know) and he had already lost the weight and looked to be in great shape. I believe he has kept the weight off based on the pictures of him from conventions or indy shows.

Don't know if this led to his release but on his 2nd WWE run I believe he started working stiff on Ken Shamrock (of all people) - Shamrock tells the story in one of his shoot interviews that Jericho had to get between the 2 during an in ring beatdown from Hughes & Jericho to Shamrock. Can't remember the details but Shamrock went looking for Hughes back stage after the segment was over but the 2 were kept apart.

One question remains to this day: why has there never been a Viscera/Big Daddy V and Mr. Hughes tag team?

One question remains to this day: why has there never been a Viscera/Big Daddy V and Mr. Hughes tag team? I really think, if Viscera had been in WCW in 1993 instead of the WWF, he would have gotten teamed up with Hughes as a monster team. And it would have rocked.

Just something I remembered, I heard he got sick during his run as Hunter's bodyguard. I seem to recall it had something to do with diabetes. Any truth to this?
I'm glad to hear he's doing well. Always liked him. He looked mean and who can hate a guy who wrestled in sunglasses and a hat?

I hated professional wrestling until I saw Mr. Hughes. I was flipping through the channels, saw him, and became hooked on wrestling.
To this day, he is my favorite professional wrestler.
