What was the best year in wrestling?
I have to say 1997.
In WCW the nwo was still hot.
In WWF they had that awesome Hart Foundation stable and we got the original edgy dx.
Also ECW pretty much peaked with its first ppv.

1997 was pretty damn awesome. I would have to say 2000 was pretty spectacular too. (In the WWF, anyway, I don't think I watched a single WCW show that year.)

1997-2000 = the war between WCW & WWE / ECW becomes the hot "alternative brand"
2002-2006 (Early 06) = WWE's golden period, Cena, Batista & Orton become breakout stars, Eddie & Chris B. finally become champions, HBK comes back from retirement and wins the World Title //
TNA starts putting on weekly PPV's before going to FSN and we get to see guys we have never seen before (Unless you followed ROH) like AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe and we get to see familiar faces like double J and Sting
1980-1991 =NWA becomes a hot promotion with guys like Flair, Magnum TA, Road Warriors, etc. etc.;
Late 80's =WWF's Rock' N Roll era

IMO 2006 was the last really fun year for wrestling all around. Sure there was some crap in every company, but they also delivered a lot of fun and cool stuff on top of it.
Then 2007 hit and everything went to hell.

for me it was the WWF from August 1991 (Flairs arrival) through August 1992 (Summerslam 92) just incredible what went on during those 12 months. I mean just too much to list really.

Even though some bad signs were already starting to creep in, I have to throw 1989 out there. Part of it for me is personal sentimental reasons, but it did give us the Flair-Steamboat trilogy, Flair-Funk culminating with the I Quit match, The Great Muta busting onto the scene, and that's just the NWA.

From Summer 1989 to Summer 1990 is my favourite year. I'm only speaking about WWF because we didn't get much WCW stuff in the UK back then.
If I had to pick a calendar year I would probably go with 1990. WWF had so many great stars back then it was scary. 1991 and 1992 were both great years too.

1997 was so great and the guy in the opening failed to mention Austin was becoming the next John Lennon that year.
2000 is very strong as well.
However I am a sucker for the mid to late 80s in Memphis, Mid-South, the NWA, WCCW, AWA and the WWF.

2007 is the last time that I was die hard excited about the way a promotion(ROH )was going so I'll say 2007.

WWF November 1994 to November 1996 just to much awesome stuff Diesel was champion all year, the rumble was star packed, WM was one of the best ever with a hot crowd, Every In Your House had a five star mat classic as a main event (Diesel/Sid Diesel/Bulldog), the King Of The Ring was superbly booked and gave us King Mabel King Mabel VS Diesel was one of the best feuds and matches ever there is nothing really to list from this time which was crap from any company pity it started to go downhill from then on as the dreaded 'Attitude Era' started to come in 'shudders'

Can you list.. anything? I'd be interested to learn some stuff I probably didn't know. Some of my favorites: Rockers breakup and Shawn goes solo Randy Savage / Jake Roberts feud The rumble itself the Warrior returns Some of the best commentary ever Undertaker wins the title for first time great I-C title matches debut of Razor Ramon WCW was also pretty good for most of this time period as well so it ranks just behind 1997 as my favorite period in wrestling ever.
