I was listening to sports radio a few nights ago and they were talking about All-Time lineups for the Yankees and the Mets. And I think this would be a pretty fun concept for discussion among the Fappers and your favorite sports teams, not just in baseball. Here's the basic idea.
1. Pick one player per position. Don't worry about benches or anything. Just the starting lineup. For baseball, this is 1-9 batters, up to five starting pitchers for the rotation (at least one ace), and your closer. For basketball, your starting five. For hockey, your starting five and goaltender. For Association Football, your starting eleven. For American Football, well, you have your work cut out for you.
2. The player can be from any era or year, alive or dead, provided they actually played for the team for at least one full season, and in that position. Like if I was making a New York Knicks dream team, I wouldn't put Michael Jordan in at Center, as Michael Jordan has neither been a Knick nor a Center. The exception to this is Designated Hitter for baseball teams. Anyone who could swing a bat would be fine here. You can also move around outfielders. You can put a lifetime centerfielder at left field, but not second base.
3. For National League teams, DH's are optional not mandatory. If you want to pick a DH for a theoretical game in an AL ballpark, go ahead.
For an example, who's who I would pick for an All Time Yankees Team:
Batting Order:
Joe Dimaggio - CF Alex Rodriguez - 3B Mickey Mantle - LF Babe Ruth - RF Lou Gehrig - 1B Yogi Berra - C Roger Maris - DH Derek Jeter - SS Tony Lazzeri - 2B
Rotation (a bit lefty-heavy):
Whitey Ford Red Ruffing Andy Pettitte Ron Guidry Lefty Gomez
Closer - Mariano Rivera

He was always in the middle of the order back then. He has almost 2,000 RBI's.

Figured this would be more of a fit in the games section, though it's an interesting concept.

New Jersey Devils
LW - Patrick Elias C - Bobby Holik RW - Ilya Kovalchuk (I know he's primarily a LW, but can probably adjust pretty easily) D - Scott Stevens D - Ken Daneyko G - Martin Brodeur
Some real tough choices in this one, especially for the Center and Defensemen. If I had to select a bench, Brian Rafalski, Scott Niedermayer, John MacLean, and Zach Parise would all be on it. Goalie was pretty one of the easiest choices ever though.
