I really enjoy this movie. I think it's really funny and I've never understood the amount of hate it gets. Anyone care to fill me in on why most are so down on it?

It's not a bad film technically, but it doesn't have the emotional weight of the rest of the Pixar catalog. And that was probably intentional on their part.
That, and the plot is eerily similar to Doc Hollywood.

I don't hate it by any means (although, the sequel is looking pretty s***), I just really didn't get into as much as alot of the other Pixar films. There's no bad Pixar movies, only Amazing and Pretty Good. Cars falls into the later category, although a bad Pixar film is still better then most flicks.
Amazing- Toy Story 1-3, Up, Wall-E, The Incredible's, Finding Nemo,
Pretty Good- Monsters Inc., A Bug's Life, Cars

I have no idea why people hate it.
Also, I'm looking forward to Cars 2 - psyched to know that Lewis Hamilton and David Hobbs did voices for it.

Honestly.....My biggest issue is more the fact that it's only "Really Good" in a catagory where we've come to expect "Astounding". That and it seems emotionally hollow following The Incredibles.

Because Larry the Cable Guy. Even people that hate him admit he was great in Cars.

We had this exact same thread a couple weeks ago. I'll say the same thing I said then: People hate this movie Personally, I really enjoyed it and don't get the hate for it at all.

I fell asleep while my (ex) girlfriend was watching it. Not because it was bad, mind you, just because I was tired and don't really care for many movies. I woke up an hour later and was really confused as I was coming to because I honestly thought that she was watching one of my DVRed NASCAR races at midnight until I realized it was the movie. DW yapping his trap, and excellent sound effects had this motorsports addict completely confused for a couple minutes.

I loved Cars. It's so cute! I love little kid movies, though. And I watched this one about a million times with the kids I used to babysit, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I got this confused with the thread below it and read the title as "Cars (Obscure Pixar Movie)"

I love the scene after Lightning and Mater come back after Tractor Tipping. Mater asks Lightning if he can get a ride in a helicopter and Lightning agrees, nonchalantly. Then the best part comes right after that.
Mater: I knew it. I knowed I made a good choice! Lightning: In what? Mater: My bes' friend.
I think that's the part of the movie that Lightning starts to soften up to the folks of Radiator Springs.

I think it's a great movie, but as others stated, since it doesn't carry the emotional weight of other Pixar classics, it catches some flak. Not every Pixar movie has to make you cry at the end.
