For anyone familiar with the area, Rangeline is almost completely devastated from what I understand. St. John's Childrens' Hospital was taken out. Some debris was carried as far as 60 miles away. Had a scare last night, as my friend that lives there called me three times while I was at work, and by the time I got off and had figured out what happened, I couldn't get a hold of him. Thankfully, his phone was just blowing up from people making sure he was okay. He's fine. Anyway, my heart goes out to anyone affected by this horrible, horrible disaster.

It's dominated all the news coverage here in St. Louis. In fact, the governor's declared a state of emergency.

We've had outbreaks like that before, it's awful to go through. My heart goes out to the people affected.

It was really really bad. I'm just over in Kansas City which isn't that far away and only heard about it yesterday.

A friend of mine climbs and repairs cell phone towers for a living, and just so happened to be in Joplin. He said it's awful- caskets washing up out of the ground, sewage everywhere. 89 dead as of this morning.
If you're the praying type, say one for the people of MO. They can use all the help they can get.

My dad's a truck driver and just happened to stop yesterday in Joplin of all places.
He's fine but the truck is done for (so is the merchandise). However, he's stuck there for now. Gonna have to take a Greyhound bus back home to SoCal.
Thank God he wasn't driving when the tornado hit. He was eating at a truckstop that had a little underground place where the truckers waited out the storm. Talk about tornado ready!

I was kind of shocked to hear this story. My town was hit the same time by a much smaller tornado and nobody was killed, but that was scary enough. I've had more than my share of run-ins with the weather phenomena and gotta say there is little scarier to my mind.
I feel for that whole place. Its such a scary thing to have bearing down on a person. Little else can tear through wherever you are at. It just doesn't feel like there is anywhere to run that could be good enough. Especially if its a monster like that one.

Not to undermine the tragedy but anyone else think this was the title to a new TLC reality series?

My thoughts & prayers go out to the families and people who were effected by this storm. I've spent a few months in St. Johns, and it really hit me in the gut to see that side of Joplin destroyed. Sad day.

Here is some incredible pictures showing just how bad it really was. I've heard it was an EF5 which is the biggest a tornado can get. this is an apartment complex Here is some before and after video a guy shot in a gas station during it. The gas station got trashed but I think most everyone made it out okay since they were in the back in the cooler area that most gas stations have. Just a fair warning. It can be really hard to watch the first video. It almost got me to tears.
