Either in terms of getting something factually wrong or just having an opinion that seems so messed up in retrospect. Of course opinions cannot really be wrong or right, but hey I needed a title for this thread and they only give you so much space.
Anyway, one time I can remember having an opinion that I definitely changed my mind about later happened in an exchange I had with some jerk around 1999 or so. The jerk was having a conversation that I overheard and felt so strongly about I have to interject. Anyway here is the basic dialogue:
- Jerk: Jon Stewart is such a better host of the Daily Show... Me: NO WAY! Craig Kilborn is WAY better! -
...yeah.

"Katy Perry has one hit wonder written all over her!" I kind of thought the same thing about Lady Gaga or at least that she would have a much shorter shelf life than she has had. In my defense, she really should have as her overexposure has really killed any interest I had in her.

"Katy Perry has one hit wonder written all over her!" I thought the exact same thing right around the time "I Kissed a Girl" was becoming a sensation. All I could think was that this girl was clearly exploiting every male fantasy of seeing a hot girl kiss another hot girl, but using it lyrically. I figured she was one-and-done. But nothing, and I mean, NOTHING, compares to how wrong I was when I said the following in August 2009: I was off on my projected box office take by over two billion dollars.

To be fair, I don't think anybody was expecting Avatar to be such a massive success. Count me as another one who was convinced it would be lucky to make back its budget.

"Twitter? That'll be barely a footnote in about 6 months." Boy was I wrong.
"Kinect? BALDERDASH!" Looks like ads really do tell people what to buy.
As for Justin Bieber...it seems like he's fading out of existence already.
And Avatar...I was actually hoping for it to topple Titanic's record. I was right.

I thought the Sony Playstation was going to be pretty cool, but would share the same fate as all other systems of the era not made by SEGA or Nintendo Oh the irony

"Katy Perry has one hit wonder written all over her!" I thought the same about Eminem when I heard My Name Is When I first heard that song, I didn't know if he was for real or not. I thought he was going to be the Weird Al of hip-hop, not so much doing parodies, but just spoofing it as a whole. I also thought he would garner a small cult following then just kinda disappear. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Jerk: Jon Stewart is such a better host of the Daily Show... Me: NO WAY! Craig Kilborn is WAY better! ...yeah. Even though before taking over TDS I always found Jon Stewart funny as a stand up but I had misgivings at first of him taking over the anchor chair. Because when it comes to TDS, Weekend Update or any kind of comedic newscast I need to buy the host as a credible news anchor. Kilburn had that to me since he used to be a SportsCenter anchor. Where as Stewart I had seen on TV doing his act in very casual attire (sweater, jeans, sneakers and the occasional leather jacket). So I thought Stewart would look akward behind and anchor's desk and in a suit. But the man has definately grown into the role (to say the least). Of course it helps that as he's grown older he went from "young hip guy who had moderate success on MTV" to a man who looks like he's about to lose it at any moment from what he see in the news and how he sees how the news media covers events in the news. "A white rapper? Yeah, like that'll work"-Me circa freshman year of high school, completely forgetting about the Beastie Boys. Although in my defense white rappers were kinda set back after people got sick of Vanilla Ice and the backlash that ensued.

"Pokemon? That'll never catch on" I had the same thought; it just seemed like a Monster in my Pocket rip-off. Then when it did catch on I thought it was just a fad that would die out within a couple of years. I also thought it would make a great PS1 game, especially as you could play the game on the console and train them on your pocketstation, then it turned out the cartoon was based on a Nintendo game and the pocketstation didn’t make it out of Japan.

I thought for sure Avatar was going to join Heaven's Gate, Ishtar, and Waterworld on the all time flop list.
On that note I also thought there was no way 3D would catch on the way it has.

Count me in as someone who thought Avatar would flop.
I still prefer Kilborn to Stewart. I just liked the early Daily Show better. I'm not saying that it's bad now, it's just not my thing.
