So I was in Wal-Mart's video game section earlier today and saw a copy of Champions Online which got me to thinking whether or not I should play it, especially now that you can play it for free. I've heard the free content is kinda limited, but just how limited? And I had a friend who played it last year and said he kinda got bored with it after a while.
Basically, I'm just looking for opinions for people who have played it. Is it a good MMO? Do you think it'll last very long if it's Free-To-Play? And, most importantly, is this a good MMO for someone who's never played an MMO before?

You get some archetype classes, and you can't customize powers types or appearance. You can still customize the costumes, run through most missions, and the like.
I have noticed that instance missions tend to have a habit of punishing you if your set up is wrong. I've played with a Glacier class, and it's an Ice using Tank type. So I tank, and I hold or slow people. Couple me with a ranged DPS guy and I actually do fairly well. You can buy more, but soon you are looking at may as well paying.
EDIT: I didn't really answer you.
It's a decent Free MMO, the pay version is better, and I like the more comic book story over CoHs. It's cheese, and people make some stupid characters, but it can be a lot of fun. Especially when you leap into a group of enemies, unleash your Ice Breath, and freeze all of them. Then comes the cackling and but whooping.
Plus once you get higher level you can make your own nemesis, and his henchmen. Even expanding it to 9 members of your rogues gallery. These let you do quest lines just dealing with them.
Plus there is a sense of humor, and there is one quest line references Big Trouble in Little China... so I think it is fun. I wouldn't saw awesome, but it's entertaining. enough for me to consider picking up the monthly.
