I just rewatched the Rumble match, and I lost track of Riley the first time around, so I paid attention this time. And...did he botch? It looked like he was supposed to hold on to the ropes but lost his grip and fell out of the ring accidentally. Did he hide under the ring because he had to be there for the Cena spot later?
I mean, I can't see them BOOKING both Santino AND Riley to be hiding under the ring, especially at the same time.

He ran back out for the Cena spot.

I think he might have because Miz said something like what Alex Riley is doing is smart... and at that point he was on the floor

It seems to be quite roomy judging from Little Peoples Court Also I didn't see him attacking Percy Watson

Yeah it seemed like a botch to me. You can kind of tell by Cena and Kofi's reaction after he goes out that it wasn't expected. Also after he got eliminated Miz was talking about him being smart for avoiding Big Show even though he had been eliminated moments before. Then all the other commentators were asking where he was.

Newz is reporting it as a botch.
And if you watch the refs when it happens, they all suddenly started talking to each other, and then to Cena and Wade when they were down and able to be spoken to. The commentators not only ask about him but go visibly quiet when they notice he isnt there anymore.
Riley blew a spot.

Even cooler than that. I was just rewatching the Rumble and I had my Sony Wireless headphones on; these things are awesome, they catch just about every intricate sound related to the shows you watch.
Seriously, when I watch wrestling with them you can actually hear individual fan chants, and even occasionally hear wrestlers calling spots.
That being said, when I just rewatched the Rumble I too paid attention to Riley, and during Santino's entrance you can hear the referee (who you can see going up to Miz prior to the camera turning to Marella's tron) say to Miz, "Riley slipped, we're working on it, let you know."
So, based off that, Riley blew the spot.

Seriously, there's a thread on this very page explaining it all.

Oh and just to clarify, Santino wasn't under the ring.
He was just laying there on the ground with his arm draped over his face for a solid 10 minutes.

If Santino was under the ring, and Riley joined him unexpectedly after the botch, imagine the awkward conversation they would have there.

These guys always take a risk when they put a guy on the ropes. I'm surprised stuff like this hasn't happened more often.
