Yokozuna was pushed as a main event heel in less than 6 months so I do not see how this wouldn't work.

Screw it, I say not soon enough. Should've had him in his first night use his money to pay Vince to totally move the PPVs around and make the Royal Rumble that night, then win it and win the World title at WrestleMania two days later.

Maybe. But I'm thinking he'll grow into it nevertheless.

I don't mind, I like Del Rio.
He really needs to get away from Rey Mysterio though.

Too soon? No such thing. Strike while the iron is hot.
...and unlike Sheamus or Swagger, the iron IS indeed hot in this case.

He's a great choice, especially if he's going after the Smackdown belt. I think he has an excellent gimmick and look and is solid in the ring. That said, I don't think he needed to win the Royal Rumble if he wasn't going to jump to Raw, as he should be able to get a title shot on Smackdown with the progress he's made.
Small point but I also think that a face should've won the an extended Royal Rumble. I think that it should've been Morrison's time but I remain optimistic that he'll win the Elimination Chamber match.

Most likely we'll just see Morrison do some more cool Parkour stuff, however, I feel everyone is prepared for Cena winning the EC and beating The Miz.

I think Morrison's parkour might be a way of giving him that extra push. I could still see Cena/Punk at Mania.

I'd say too soon, but the problem is that the WWE roster is thin on main eventers at the level of headlining Wrestlemania. Edge vs. Del Rio just doesn't scream "Wrestlemania Main Event" to me. But looking at Smackdown's roster, I don't think there's anything else that would either.
Given the choices they had, Del Rio was probably the best choice. I don't follow Mexican wrestling, but as I understand it Del Rio is a pretty big draw in mexico and among the latino community, so he's not exactly the worst choice either.

I think they've done a pretty good job building him up as someone significant. He's not had a lot of time to win people over, but he seems to be a threat.
And his one big advantage is that, unlike most other people they could have put into his spot, he hasn't spent the last several months being a loser.

I'm thinking Punk vs. Orton at Mania most likely or a Corre vs. Nexus match. Morrison I can see winning MITB this year.

Calling it:
Semi-Main Event is Alberto vs. Edge.
Main Event is John Cena vs. CM Punk vs. The Miz vs. Randy Orton.

To me, Del Rio is nothing more than an average character. The guy can wrestle, but his gimmick is the same week in & week out. He does nothing to improve on it and in turn it is hurting him, in my eyes at least.
I think it is too soon. There are more deserving people to have won the Rumble. I would have went with Morrison myself, but what he lacks is great mic skills. He isn't bad by any means, just not near as good as say Miz or Sheamus or Cena.
All in all though, I would have waited for Del Rio. I'm not against the guy, but he needs to show me more than he has. I may be wrong, but the live crowds don't even seem that interested in him. When he won the Rumble, it seemed like the crowd was just "Thats it? Him? Whatever."
Then on Raw, his celebration. No one seemed overly interested in that either. It wasn't until Miz & Edge came out that the crowd seemed to care what was going on. Like I said before, given time and room for his character to grow, sure I could take Del Rio as Wrestlemania main event material. But right now, I can't.
Sorry for the long post. Had a lot to say, hope it didn't seem like a rant, wasn't meant to be.

I agree with your post for the most part -- nothing about Edge vs. Del Rio screams "Wrestlemania main event" to me. But take a look at Smackdown's roster. Keep in mind that Taker is on the shelf and even if he does come back will be unlikely to give us a top level performance. Now besides that, who on that roster is really a Wrestlemania main event draw? Not just a main eventer -- there's a difference between main eventers and main eventers who are big enough to headline Wrestlemania. The pickings are kinda slim. While I'm not a big fan of the match headlining wrestlemania, I also understand that there's not a whole hell of a lot they've got to work with, and Edge/Del Rio may be as good as it gets.
