Do people ever realize that when the HBK was the world champion in 1996 the WWF wasn't doing real well. WCW was kicking their butt. He was there for the start of the attitude era but missed out on the whole part of when the WWE went mainstream after WM 14 all the way t'll WM 15. He missed everything, which was all the fun times. By the time he came back to the WWE wrestling had lost alot of popularity and it kinda sucked for him. Stone Cold and The Rock just happened to be in the WWE at the right times. I know he was hurt but I feel bad that he missed the 98-99 timeframe when the Monday night War was serious. Yeah he made appearances after that but it just wasn't the same.

Yes he conviently unfortunately was injured during the Rock & Austin runs at the top. Once they'd gone and he was again considered good enough to main event he came back. Oh sorry, I mean he RECOVERD from his injury.

The Rock was still at the top when HBK returned in 2002.
Michaels was commissioner anyway in 1999.

He puts down HBK in every thread, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Maybe it's just a startling coincidence that as soon as Austin was out of the picture and Rock reducing his scheduel to fit round his movie career that HBK had a sudden and miraculous recovery.

I always thought Degeneration X was part of the Attitude era. It would seem that the first ones to actually usher in the era were HBK, HHH and Chyna while Steve Austin carried the era the rest of the way.

The promotion was centered on Austin even after the Montreal Screwjob. Michaels was just the champion at the time.
I think Michaels missing four years actually helped the WWE. Michaels had a history of refusing to job, and at that time, elevating guys like Rock, HHH, Foley, etc, was a necessity. Not to mention 1996 was a terrible year for the company, and Shawn was THE MAN in every sense of the word that year (main evented house shows, PPV's, etc).
It would have been nice to see Rock/Michaels at least once, but Shawn missing the Attitude Era was probably a good thing.

Oh sorry, I mean he RECOVERD from his injury. To be fair, Shawn Michaels probably worked one of the toughest schedules, was pretty beat up, and did you actually see what the injury was that took him out. He was thrown over the top rope and landed back first on the edge of a casket. Forgive him for being injured. Conspiracy theorists can be crazy sometimes. Next you'll probably say that Hulk Hogan and Vince never hated each other before, they just decided 20 years ago that Hogan was gonna join a rival company just to kill it so Vince would be the only guy in town. Or that Montreal was all a work.

Isn't this canon by now? Austin and Rock were the trendsetters and leaders of the Attitude Era. Shawn Michaels was the guy that screwed over Bret Hart and was beaten by Austin during his rise to the top. That's the only role he played except when he was the Rock's errand boy during the Corporation in '98.
