I think that Mr. Rogers was the greatest man to ever feature on television.
NOTE - I have few buttons to push. Mr. Rogers is one. This is an appreciation thread for Mr. Rogers.

It's not just you, it's a golden internet rule that you do NOT talk bad about Mr. Rogers. Even *that* message board follows that rule.

My favorite is the Giraffe story.

This speech always gives me goosebumps every time I see it.

I used to watch his show when I was a little kid. I always liked the model town that was shown as exterior shots.

I grew up watching Mr. Rogers. It's a shame that future generations of children won't have somebody like Mr. Rogers as a part of their childhood. His messages were simple yet very effective in the way they were delivered.

The downside is he's not a very fun drunk.

He had a good way with kids. Didn't have other ones on set so it seemed like he was talking to you specifically.

Mr. Rogers was great.
If I could bring back one PBS-related guy back to live though, it would DEFINITELY be Jim Henson.

He was a cool guy. His show probably would've been horribly saccharine if not for his sincerity.

Yeah, you don't appreciate until you're a bit older just how committed to his message Fred Rogers was.
He wasn't ploying for ratings (after all, he WAS on PBS), he wasn't playing a phony character to sell toys; he simply saw an opportunity to spread a message of understanding, friendship, and self-esteem through television, and did it with complete sincerity.

The fact that Fred Rogers the man was also Fred Rogers the character makes me smile.....It's sad that he's possibly the last GENUINE human being to have appeared on TV.

I remember Mr. Roger's Neighborhood when I was a kid.
Of course without a Mr. Roger's Neighborhood there wouldn't be a Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood.

Mr. Rogers was a regular customer at a gas station that I had worked at a number of years ago. There was absolutely NO difference at all between the character he portrayed on TV, and the person that he was. Whenever he comes up in conversation, I always like to share my favorite story about him: One morning two guys came to the station pushing an old, beat up clunker to a pump after running out of gas. One of them came in with about 75 cents in small change(keep in mind, gas was about $1.50 a gallon at the time), which he had hoped would be enough to get the two of them to work. Behind him entered Mr. Rogers. He paid for his fill-up, and gave me an extra ten dollars saying "Those gentlemen appear to be having a bit of trouble. Give this to them, but please don't tell them who it came from". After he left, the guy came in asking why the pump didn't shut off. I told him another customer paid for it. He asked "did Mr. Rogers just buy me gas?" I declined to answer. He went outside, and yelled across the lot to his buddy "Hey, man, it's alright. I think Mr. Rogers just bought us gas!" Great guy.
