That is f***ing ridiculous. I shudder to think, and I speak for perhaps a good percentage of us, what would have happened if those laws were passed back then.

inb4 "Today's kids are so (insert disparaging remarks here)" stuff
(This is a joke, by the way, since often these discussions are reasonably predictable)

That is just stupid. If I misbehaved as I child, I got smacked. It wasn't that hard a smack but it was hard enough to stop me doing whatever I did again. Smacking a misbehaving child is not abuse and anyone who doesn't know the difference between smacking and abusing a child shouldn't be having kids anyway.

Gonzales?
That explains the overreaction with the sentence.

If I stepped out of line, my mum tanned my hide. Never used a belt or anything, just 3 solid open hand slaps on the ass. And honestly, I'm glad I was raised that way. Made me realize there were consequences for my actions.

I'm not for or against this. I think spanking is worthless and that there are better and more constructive ways to raise your children than striking them, but I don't think that this should have gone to court. This should be an isolated incident and should serve as an example and nothing more.

It's about time that the real villains of society finally get brought to justice. The last thing this world needs is parents trying to discipline their children.

You do not hit children. Nevermind a f***ing TWO YEAR OLD.

"You don't spank children today," said Judge Jose Longoria. "In the old days, maybe we got spanked, but there was a different quarrel. You don't spank children." What does this even mean? There was a different quarrel? Also looking at where this happened reminded me of:

See, THIS is why kids are such bigger assholes today honestly. They start to learn that they can get their parents in trouble for spanking them, and start to act up, unchecked. It's like when you see those kids on talk shows doing the boot camp thing.. you know if mom would have just popped em one for mouthing off,m they wouldn't turn into little monsters.

We've got more and more laxed in the way we punish children, and society continues to get worse and worse. Noone will convince me that the two are not related.

If the only way you can teach a child a lesson is through some form of physical violence, f*** you, you should not be having kids.

Yet oddly enough I have yet to be charged with a crime, done hard drugs, or released a sex tape. Maybe there is more to good parenting than just hitting or not hitting.
