I added Cherone in interest of fairness.... I just can't see him getting many non-joke votes. Anyway, mine is DLR all the way. They went from a kick ass arena rock band that was all about fun to doing a bunch of "melancholy ballads" as Dave put it later. That being said, I don't blame Sammy. In DLR's book he mentioned Eddie had already begun writing like that, which was one reason he eventually decided to go.

I like Gary Cherone but he was wrong for VH. I loathe Sammy, so theonly choice for me isDiamond Dave!

I voted Gary Cherone because I'm a smartass.

I hate Roth. Hate his voice his demeanor, and his lyrics. Much better musically with Hagar.

They were better with Dave but Sammy blows him out of the water vocally, imo.

Gary Cherone. When Gary entered VH that's when they were in their experimenting stage as far as the music is concerned. In my opinion, Gary brought a stronger sense of melody, songwriting, and emotion with his singing.
It would've been nice to see what future albums would've sounded like with him.

Gary Cherone is the better singer, but DLR and Hagar are much better frontmen, with DLR being slightly better than Hagar.

I'm not a big fan of Van Halen, but if I had to choose, it'd be Diamond Dave.
Oddly, my favorite VH song is "Dreams", a Hagar tune. But whatever.

David Lee Roth, though Hagar's solo work was generally solid.

David Lee Roth all the way, but Sammy Hagar would probably be cooler to hang out with. Roth would probably be way too egotistical and depending on the year coked out of his mind. Hagar is a lot more laid back, but not the performer Roth is.

Personally, I prefer Hagar, but DLR is the Van Halen singer, and anyone else feels like they're just substituting.

Hagar is a lot more laid back, but not the performer Roth is. Yeah, but now we'd have to listen to Hagar rambling about being kidnapped by aliens.
