So, I finally got around to watching Rango today, and I gotta say, I REALLY enjoyed it. I honestly thought it was as good as some of Pixar's best.
It was clever, it was funny, it was emotional and serious in the right spots and in the right ways...it was just a damn fine movie.
I thought the Rango/Beans romance was a bit shoehorned in...but that's really it.
Great flick.

I really like it. It felt like a classic western. I also liked when the reference "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."

One of the best concessions I've ever made. ;D Not only did I love this movie, the *little* things going on in the background, and the nods to adult-themed films and franchises are AWESOME. *Hunter S. Thompson cameo...... *The "Spirit of the West"..... *The "Hills Have Eyes" moles..... SOOOO much to love in this movie, and that's not even getting around to Johnny Depp's awesome performance in the title role.

Ehhhh....you *might* want to spoiler tag that, cause it IS sort of a surprise who the "Spirit of the West" turns out to be.
*shrug*
Just lookin' out for the folks who haven't seen it.

I was pleasantly surprised by it. Didn't expect much, and enjoyed it quite a bit.
Didn't love it or anything, but it was quite decent.
Rattlesnake Jake ruled.

I honestly thought it was on the level of Pixar. I'm very glad the difference isn't as bad as it used to be. Used to be, we'd get a Pixar gem, and a Dreamworks or whatever other animation studio mediocrity. Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon, Rango, etc. show it doesn't have to be so one sided anymore.

It didn't help that they used to just assume that since it was computer animated, it'd sell itself. Hollywood is stupid.

I was really excited to see it and it just didn't entertain me that much. I feel like a lot of it's popular success is due to Johnny Depp being involved. Parts of it were really great but over all I was underwhelmed.

Parts of it were really great but over all I was underwhelmed. It probably helped, but for me, there was more to it than that. I knew I loved the film when we get him coming up with the name "Rango".

I didn't like it. It was pretty much just ripping off the plot of Chinatown, throwing it in Sergio Leone's Man With No Name setting, and throwing in far too many references to other, better films.
