This is going to be a somewhat-controversial view, but I consider Danzig to be a good example of a band just known for one song.
They made several great songs, and yet the only one you ever hear on the radio is "Mother". It's an okay song, but the fact that it's played so constantly makes you feel like they never made another one.
Same with the Moody Blues and "Knights in White Satin".

Dead or Alive is only known for You Spin Me Round (Like a Record).
Great song, but the fact that it was their only internationally-successful song really annoyed Pete Burns.

Wheatus
They're pretty much only known for Teenage Dirtbag.

Wheatus are legit one of my favourite bands, and they really are only known for Teenage Dirtbag. Maaaaaaaaaaybe their cover of A Little Respect, at a push. Shame. They have a lot of cute songs.

If you only listened to my local rock radio stations, you'd think just about every band in history was a one-hit wonder.

Smashmouth with 'All Star' New Radicals with 'You Get What You Give' I'm not ashamed to admit that I owned that New Radicals album and it was actually very decent. There were a few very good songs on it. Also, I would say Smash Mouth is known for a few more than just "All-Star". What about "Walking on the Sun" or their covers of "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and "Can't Get Enough of You, Baby"?

I remember a long time ago I bought Squeeze: The Singles. My friend said, "Why did you buy their album they only have one song, "Tempted."" I let him borrow the CD, and he became a fan.

I'd forgotten Smashmouth did 'Walking on the Sun'......but All Star was in just about every comedy/kids film from the late 90's....

While the song is going to have the longest life out there, Smash Mouth has about 6 or 7 songs that people my age would still know decently well if they listened to the songs. Only one I know that other people probably don't from them is Pacific Coast Party, and that's because of Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure.

Fush Yu Mang was an AWESOME album. There's not a song on it that sucks, as far as I'm concerned. It was full of awesome, catchy music with really smart, witty lyrics. ...and then we got everything after that. To quote the band itself, "Man, what the hell happened?"
