Oh good, Spidey is taking FURTHER back seat to damn Peter Parker. I certainly don't want to see him...fighting villains and helping the innocent...I want to see Peter bitching about Liz Allen and how the whole world hates him and how he just can't get a date with the love of his life, Mary Jane. Oh, maybe just when he's about to change into Spidey...Aunt f***ing May can have a heart attack and he can instead run off to tend to her side.
The Ultimate Universe sucks, and if THIS is the route they're taking the movies, then it's instant fail. They should have stuck with Raimi and just ditched Dunst and McGuire.

Okay, when I heard that they wanted to take Peter back to high school, I was expecting something like a live-action version of the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon, which is actually quite good. What I wasn't expecting was Spider-Man getting the Smallville treatment on the silver screen.
That $80 million budget sounds ridiculously low for something like Spider-Man. That gives me the impression that there basically won't be any epic sequences that really make Spider-Man come to life. I'm not saying that the movie has to cost over $200 million, but jeez, at least give them $130 or so.
I'll try to remain optimistic for now, but after two movies of Peter Parker whining and bitching about how much his life sucks, and constantly wanting to quit being Spider-Man, I was really hoping for something a little more fun.

Looking into Ultimate Spiderman... I think this might actually be cool. It's a different take on the characters, so we'll see.

Well, it'll be different at least.
Not going to call different good or different bad until more details come out, but frankly, I have to admit to be a tad disappointed that the movie is taking this direction, as I've said before, I prefer my Spiderman cracking wise and fighting, rather than a Peter Parker movie which, imo, if they want that route, should really be a Smallville style TV series.

OK, at first, I was indifferant about a reboot. Too early, ya, but whatever. The whole "Ultimate Spiderman" thing people were kinda whining about, I had no clue what the big deal was. I'm not a comic nerd...I want to be, but I'm not. But then I read the article up there that says it focuses more on angst than fighting villains......
ummmmmmm...yyaaaa....did Sony not see how bad the "angst" went over in 3. The budget dont bother me a whole lot, but cmon, its a comic movie....I wanna see larger than life villains, not how bad life sucks.
Maybe I'm jumpin the gun...maybe the movie will kick all kinds of ass. But reading that article, what hope I had for the movie kinda diminished.

And the story will be pared down to center on a high school kid who is dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though the teen had the power to stop it.
So it's going to be the first 30 minutes of the first Spiderman played out for 100 minutes.
A thrill ride a minute!

I shall continue to give it a go, but yeah, they want a film version of Smallville, but with Spiderman obviously.
It'll make money even if it's appalling. So Sony will be happy. But if they wanted to go through this route, as others and I have said before, they should have just done a Smallville-esque TV show.

I'll give it a chance, but I'm not feeling very confident.
And if that Percy Jackson kid is in the running for the role, I guess I'll watch that movie just to get a feel for him.

I may not have been a huge fan of the recent series of films. But at least I could say they were more or less accurate portrayals of the characters and gave fans alike what they wanted.
But who really wants to watch Spiderman meets Smallville on the big screen? They'd be better off trying something original and hoping it caught on. This will likely end up pissing off a lot of people.

Wow I have very little faith that this film will be any good. I am sorry I do not want a reboot, especially a high school drama one. I want Spiderman 4 with a new villian and better story. I mean come on I can now see reboots being the trend in Hollywood like remakes.
Ok I had to add this to my post because I did not know who the screenwriter was then I saw the movies he wrote....crap like Darkness Falls and The Rundown. We also have a guy who directed music videos mostly....yea the movie going to suck hard...no I don't want to hear don't judge it till we see something like a trailer proof is sitting right there.

I'll stick with Raimi's movies thanks. Yes, yes, yes, a billion times yes, thank you. Raimi nailed it perfectly. The third was "meh" - that's true - but that was thanks to studio interference. So instead of being intelligent and letting him do another film that would have made up for the third one (which I didn't think was all that bad) they go for a reboot. Great. I'm not that thrilled really. I'm quite disappointed. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)
