Like, he cares about Marty's kids going to jail, but seems to brush off Marty himself being crippled and losing all his dreams. Fixing that would fix everything that comes after, why fix the stuff that's down the road and not fix that stuff that leads to the stuff down the road. And where's my hoverboard?

Maybe he didn't find that out. Marty's son was in the paper, and that could've gotten the Doc's attention enough for him to see how it pans out. Then to see that his daughter got arrested, too, he had to focus on helping save the kids, immediately went back in time (although he could've done it at any time) to get Marty and Jennifer.

The popular hypothesis is that Doc is directly responsible for whatever made Marty's kid go bad.

His moral compass gets more out of whack if you count the recent video game. He seems to arbitrarily decide what can and can't be fixed.

Yeah but didn't he mention the accident to Marty?

Why not just time-travel to the day before the accident and kick Needles in the yam-bag?
That might prevent the tragedy that befalls Mary McFly, especially if Doc was wearing a pair of those awesome boots Griff had in 2015.

Back To The Future 2 was such a let-down. I think it would be tied (for me at least) with Episode 1 in terms of overall disappointment.

And where's my hoverboard? And my Pepsi Perfect? I think we're all hoping that a Cafe 80s opens up somewhere near us.

Fixing that would fix everything that comes after, why fix the stuff that's down the road and not fix that stuff that leads to the stuff down the road. And where's my hoverboard? My guess is, Doc figured preventing the accident would dramatically affect the timeline more than if he had Marty stop Marty Jr. from getting arrested. Plus, it'd be harder to stop Marty from hitting the car, since it would either involve direct intervention or doing what he did in the future, replace Marty with Marty. The problem with doing this is, Marty is still Marty, replacing him with a Marty, even forarmed with the knowledge, probably wouldn't have worked due to his hotheadedness. Nothing would have really changed with Marty.
