Just something I've been thinking about. Suppose the internet in all of it's current infrastructure was around during the good (or bad depending on your viewpoint) old days when the WWF was just getting it's first head of steam and some of the old territories were still around. What do you think the wrestling fandom would've looked like back then?

It would have been a lot more exposed. Independent terratories would more then likely be a lot bigger and more recognized. Hulk Hogan would "suck"
Very interesting discussion might I add.

Antonino Rocco would be a good for his innovative moveset, while Bruno Sammartino would be trashed for holding the belt for an eternity and burying talent.

everything would have been the same...mainly because most promoters and bookers still don't care what you actually think, they still believe you will just go with what they want you to and generally they are actually correct

I don't know about the 70's, but in the 80's, everybody would be pissed at Vince for killing off their local territory, and saying that said home territory was light years better than the WWF. Or, if sites like Youtube existed back then, people would watch all territories equally, and the WWF may not have had the chance to expand.
We would see that a huge muscular guy named Terry Bollea had just been signed, and a few weeks later, we see that he was given the nickname of "Hulk Hogan." Immediately, we get 6 photoshops of him with green skin posted simultaneously. When he gets the belt, everyone immediately gripes as to why the hell it was taken off Bob Backlund in the first place. As the decade progresses, we go back to any thread from 2006-07, and replace "John Cena" with "Hulk Hogan." As soon as Hogan/Andre is announced for Wrestlemania III, people gripe that THAT is our main event instead of Savage/Steamboat. We talk about how that match saved the show and how the main event stunk the building up.
There would be a massive wave of excitement when Harley Race is signed to the WWF, and we think the NWA legend is going to be a major player. A massive wave of disappointment follows when he is given the King gimmick and shifted to the midcard. Roughly the same would happen for Dusty Rhodes.

Actually looking back I recall it being mentioned that Backlund was 'The Original John Cena'. Towards the end of his reign he was seen as kind of overrated by some pro-wrestling publications.

Video tape then cable was already killing them. Youtube would have exposed everything.

We'd be gnashing our teeth over travesties like how a fresh young talent who's been big in Japan like Hulk Hogan is getting held down and BERRIED by Verne Gange.
C'mon, how many times is Bockwinkel going to retain? If this keeps up, Hogan's credibility is going to be ruined forever, and no one will ever take him seriously.

Verne wants a cut of Hogan's Japanese earnings and merchandise money before he gives Hogan the belt. I hope Hogan goes to New York like so many have speculated. I actually think Gagne is being smart with Hogan, because he is able to book main events in town after town with Hogan challenging for the title and he is making Hogan look like he is going to win so the cities will think they will get to see Hogan win the title. It's brilliant! If Hogan does go to WWF, I hope Vince doesn't ruin him.

We'd get posts calling for something called the Nation, made up of Junkyad Dog, Iceman King Parsons, Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas.

Why is Mr. Fuji a manager now? That makes no sense! The whole point of a manager is that he does the talking for wrestlers who can't cut promos! Well, you can barely understand Fuji! I swear WWF doesn't know what they're doing! Vince is killing wrestling!
Jim Duggan and Ted DiBiase's matches suck in WWF. WWF won't let them really wrestle! And when the hell is Dynamite Kid going to get a singles push? He's gonna be the biggest star of the 1990s, mark my words.

The IWC would've hated Andre, considering him just another "Hoss" that Vince loves so much.

For what I heard about 70s Andre and such, he could move pretty damn well. Plus, consider that in all his time in the business, the ONLY singles title he ever held was his 45 second WWF Championship reign. All his other titles were tag team titles.

Why the Young Stallions aren't getting a push? Magnum TA is overrated. Arn Anderson needs to win the NWA World title. Can Dusty Rhodes just go away? Hulk Hogan only knows 4 moves. If Ric Flair did it, you wouldn't say anything. Randy Savage is better than anyone in the WWF. Why is he not WWF champion? Terry Funk is old. Please retire.
