I know the Russo connection but there has to be a gold standard something on a pole match.

I always enjoyed the Bossman/Nailz "nightstick On a pole" match.
But that could be the story behind it that makes me appreciate it.

Do flag matches count? I recall one with the Hart Foundation on Raw that was pretty entertaining at the time. The one where Pillman hid under the ring.

I saw a cole miners glove match in world class once that Kerry won against some huge heel(I forget who but he was large) anyway you climb the pole get the glove and use it to wear out the other guy. Kerry got the glove but didn't want to use it and lost because of it. Good story inside the ring right there

I remember Foley vs. the Rock in a Pink Slip on a Pole match being pretty compelling but I was a child at the time and I haven't seen it since. It probably blows goats though because it's a god damn pole match.

Brock Lesnar vs Undertaker - Bikerchain on pole match at No Mercy 2003 was really good. It wasn't called "...on a pole match", but that's what it was.

Duggan vs. DiBiase, coal miners glove on a pole cage match, Mid-South, circa 1985. Pretty much the best one, IMHO.

Which I thought was weird to have since earlier in the night, John Cena used his necklace chain in a match... it felt like it was chain night in the WWE. I wondered, why is a biker chain match special if Cena is already just using a chain from his pocket? Same kinda chain... why have it up on a pole?

I enjoyed the Regal vs Edge brass knuckles on a pole match from No Way Out 02 I think.

Everyone knows it is impossible to carry a bike chain in your pocket.

I actually enjoyed Buff Bagwell vs. Chris Kanyon in the Judy Bagwell on a pole match, likely because it wasn't actually a pole match.
