It's David Arquette...........
His very public downward spiral seemingly complete, David Arquette has checked himself into rehab. The 'Scream' actor, who announced his split with wife Courteney Cox in October, sought help some time over the New Year's weekend after months of erratic behavior. His rep confirmed the news to PEOPLE.
According to TMZ, which broke the story, Arquette checked into an unnamed live-in rehab facility to address an alcohol problem. The actor hosted a New Year's Eve party at Arquette & Beacher's Madhouse Theater, located at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. According to its website, the venue features a "Flying Midget bartender" and has the "atmosphere of a circus."
A source close to Arquette tells TMZ he's seeking help because it's "the right thing to do for his family."
PEOPLE quotes another insider who confirms the star is in rehab for "drinking and depression, not hard drugs."
Cox has quickly come out in support of Arquette's decision, telling PEOPLE, "I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life," adding, "I love and support him."
During a segment on Howard Stern's radio show last month, Arquette admitted he was having a hard time dealing with his split with Cox, his wife of 11 years and mother of his 6-year-old daughter, Coco. "I've been drinking a lot because I'm heartbroken," he admitted. "It's really a personal, traumatic thing."
Stern pointedly asked Arquette whether he believed he was having a nervous breakdown. "I believe so," the actor responded. "Everybody is worried and concerned about me."
The actor has been spotted on numerous occasions over the past few months yukking it up at nightclubs, Lakers games (while wearing odd costumes) and at a tattoo parlor in Miami. In November, he wrote that his recent uptick in social engagements is not indicative of a larger problem. "I know people think I've flipped my lid but I haven't," he wrote on Twitter.
Incidentally, his final post on Twitter, from Dec. 27, is a photo taken in the middle of the street with traffic coming straight at him.
On October 12, the day after Arquette and Cox announced their separation, Arquette called in to Stern's show and divulged intimate details about his failing marriage and his hookup with a waitress after they separated in June. Arquette said that he and his wife hadn't had sex for about a month before they started shooting Scream 4 and that Cox wanted the separation because she told him she was "tired of being your mother."
While Arquette later admitted that he revealed too many details about his relationship with Cox, he returned to Stern's show on Oct. 27, saying that he's slept with at least two women since his separation.
