Just another thing I've been thinking about. Last night's RAW seemed to be lingering over the point of how Lawler's gone 'soft' in his old age (Michael Cole pretty much said as much out loud in fact).
Supposing this is all leading up towards Lawler turning heel again?

A heel Lawler and Cole on commentary alone would make me want to change the channel.

Most people haven't seen non cartoon Lawler, let alone bad-ass fire-throwing Lawler. Jerry's fullblown heel mode is the real deal.

Lawler's heel commentary pissed me the hell off growing up. I miss it.

I miss heel King but I don't think it'd be the right move at this point in time. Cole's line was nothing but an insult, I don't think there's any more to it than that.

True, there's no way it's happening.
But I'll be damned if it wouldn't be great. You could have him injure the bejeebers out of Cole, take him off of TV, have Matthews & Lawler commentate, and have Lawler hold the belt for 2 weeks before dropping it to Cena (because, well, Cena wins everything. I'm dreaming, but I'm not delusional...)
Heel Lawler would be instant win.

You could easily argue that Lawler is top-5 over face (along with Cena, Orton, Edge and Santino) in the company right now. There's no way they mess with that.

I miss heel King so much but that would be ridiculous having him and Cole both be heels. I don't think I could take it.

I agree with you and I feel that is why WWE is failing to get over younger guys over. They could have easily used John Morrison in the Jerry Lawler spot. Making Lawler look like any type of threat against The Miz just hurts Miz.

His gimmick is supposed to be that he doesn't really deserve the belt, and you should be pissed off that he holds onto it against superior athletes (and non-superior athletes) by using cowardly, dirty tactics.

A heel Lawler and Cole on commentary alone would make me want to change the channel. Honestly, of all of the "legends" they had to choose it had to be Jerry. Now I understand he's a great of the business and that, and if they wanted to thank him give him a lower title shot, but the guy is well past his sell by date and having this go on in Wrestlemania season is ridiculous. Like the rest have said, who benefits from having a new main eventer's first feud against a 61 year old man whose been behind the commentators desk for 15+ years?
