I recently watched SummerSlam 1999. I was just reading comments saying HHH was supposed to break up the pin but didn't thus Foley winning. Is this actually true, and does anybody have a full story of the aftermath? Sounds very interesting.

I thought that Foley one day reign back then was a result of Austin not wanting to drop the title to Triple H one on one and so they just used Mick as a transitional champion.

Oh ok, just heard various other stories, but I don't know which one is real or not. HHH's title run being leaked online, thus quickly changed to Foley winning. StoneCold not wanting to job to HHH. Just all these crazy things, I want to find the Truth.

I heard it was because Jesse didn't want a heel winning it in his own state.

I've always heard the "Austin didn't want to job to HHH" version of the story.

I've also heard the Jesse not wanting to be pictured or anything raising the hand of a heel as WWF Champion in his own state too

The way Foley was added to the match was weird. He literally just came back from injury and he's thrown right into a title match. Who does he think he is, The Undertaker?
It seemed like the only reason he was in there was to take the fall. But then he won. Very odd.

If you were Austin, Rock, Mankind, Undertaker, or Foley back in those days and you were not the current champ, you were guaranteed to get a shot within a couple months at the longest.

No wonder he got some many title shots, he convinced the WWE he was two different people.

now imagine if Triple H didn't want to drop the belt to CM Punk so they added John Cena to the match at the last second. HOLY CRAP!

It was so stupid just losing the title the next day out of nowehere though. It would have meant more for Hunter to win it at Unforgiven.

Well, Jesse Ventura was involved so chances are there was some sort of CONSPIRACY!!!
Also, remember when Ventura threw Shane McMahon out of the ring and Austin got on the ropes to trash talk him but fell out of the ring when Ventura grabbed the rope to yell at Shane? Hilarious.

The reason Foley gave was that Austin didn't want to job to HHH. Thats really the only legit reason as to why that one day reign happened. Speculation has also indicated that Ventura didn't want to raise the hand of a heel in that match but thats just speculation. I have never heard that Foley won on a botch pin break up.

IIRC that's the reason Mick gave in his book. Actually all he does is give a synopsis of what we saw on TV and even he points out how stupid it was for a guy who hadn't been seen in months to get a title match. All he says is that they called him up and told him he was in the match. He doesn't go into the reason why. Though he gives the impression, though he doesn't outright say it, that he was added to cover for Austin who was suffering from nagging injuries. He doesn't explain why he won though, just that it was a "surprise" and dropping the belt to Triple H the next night was "expected."

The rumors at the time were definitely that Austin refused to job to Triple H, so Foley was added just to take the title off Austin.
Which many have said, but as a NEWZ reader all the way back then, I remember this was the going theory.
The Ventura not wanting to raise the hands of a heel stuff came later.
