Initially, did you think this was a good idea lol???
I remember watching those heavily hyped ads on TV talking about how "This is REAL football"... and they showed all these clips trying to hype it up as a more sophisticated, advanced and aggressive version of football. I couldn't wait!!!
Then it happened, I couldn't stop laughing... "THIS...IS...THE...X-F-L!!!!" Damn, that was hilarious! It was if the evil Mr. McMahon had taken over the world of football! lol
I loved the XFL, mostly because I thought it was hilarious.

The players weren't very good, the rules seemed to change from week to week and the red-and-black ball just looked kind of goofy.
But they did pretty much invent the camera suspended over the field with the series of pulleys and wires. The NFL pretty much swiped that idea. And I thought it was hilarious when Jesse Ventura tried to start a feud with coach Rusty Tillman.

After I watched the 1st game, I loved it. Then I saw the next few games and got bored with it fast. Not only that, all of the rule changes and gimmicks they did really made it imposable to take seriously. It was an interesting experiment for it's time, I'll give it that.

It wasn't great, but wasnt bad.
Like any first year sports organization, it had its struggles. Rules were amended as they saw the need. But I'm sure there were a number of factors that caused it to fail.
The greatest one, imo, was the bad timing of it. Post-Superbowl was not the time to kick it into gear. To go from the magnitude of the superbowl... to the first week of the first season of XFL the very next week really emphasised how far apart these two leagues were. Should have been played in the time leading up to the next NFL season.. maybe giving those kids that didn't get drafted a place to go.

I don't like football, so I didn't like second-rate football either.

I was probably the last San Francisco Demons fan (actually, we led the league in attendance, and were the only team to draw over 30,000 for every game). The football was pretty awful that first season, but had the teams played together a few more seasons, they would have developed more chemistry and put out a better product. It would never be on par with the NFL, but it would be a good second league in the spring.

The failure of XFL was largely in part with the hype job it got and was given national coverage when lord knows it shouldn't have. Stuff like this, WBF and WWE Films is why insane hype jobs arent going to save everything.

After seeing the first two games, I came to the conclusion that there was nothing different from the NFL and got bored.

The football got better as the season got along. Sure it was never great but better then a college game. Its just the first few weeks with stupid rules and rusty teams that needed pre season or something to not look like crap would have helped it a bit out of the gate.

All the hype leading up the beginning of the season did get me excited. Then I watched the first game, realized that there really wasn't much of a difference between this and the NFL (except that the XFL players sucked), and stopped watching it.

I "liked" those.
