I had a thought today, remembering an old PWI article. In the article, they took all the WWE champions up to that point, averaged together their height and weight, to determine who, physically, on the current roster was the perfect champion. No thought given to charisma or drawing power, just the purely physical. Their result came out as Jerry Saggs. I tried the experiment a few years ago, around 2005, and I got Tyson Tomko. I wonder if any intrepid individual would be willing to do this experiment for the modern list. From Buddy Rogers all the way to our current champions.

Is this only for the WWE Championship?

Is this only for the WWE Championship? I'm not sure. I guess that would be up to your discretion.

I once made a list of every single championship holder in WWE history and it took forever, but doing it for one title probably wouldn't be that bad.

My top 3 results were Skip Sheffield, Chris Masters, and Husky Harris. Wacky, but it sounds about right. I would have thought that Khali, Big Show, and Andre would f*** up the curve, height wise at least, but hey, good to see they didn't.

Okay, yeah, that actually makes sense. He'd be enough to offset one of them, at the very least.

Alright, so I did the data for all the WWE champions and WHC champions to see whom among them fit average. The average height was about 6.25 feet, and the average weight was 273 pounds. That made the average WWE Champion pretty close to Superstar Billy Graham, with the Ultimate Warrior and Brock Lesnar behind. There are enough people in that category to help even out the outliers (f.ex, Rey Mysterio and Great Khali for the height, and Rey Mysterio and Yokozuna for the weight). However, the larger size of guys past tended to skew the results against any smaller wrestlers. When I did current superstars, the average height was about 6.17 feet and the average weight was around 251 pounds (which is actually Alex Riley on the nose, with Tyler Reks a pound heavier). There wasn't any one superstar who was right on the money for the WWE champions of the past, but looking it over, I think there are two that come close. They are... Welshtista himself, Mason Ryan (6.5, 272 pounds) and Our new King of the Ring, Sheamus (also at 6.5, 272 pounds). Of course, there is some leeway. Wade Barrett's close to the height, but about 13 pounds too light. Skip Sheffield's about that height, but 10 pounds too heavy. My personal guess was Jack Swagger, but he was also 10 pounds heavy (and a few inches taller). Here's my data below, in case anyone's interested. The Champions Wrestler Height (inches) Weight (lbs) The Great Khali 85 420 The Big Show 84 485 Kane 84 323 Andre the Giant 84 500 Shawn Michaels 73 225 Diesel 83 317 The Undertaker 82.5 299 Sycho Sid 81 317 Hulk Hogan 79 302 Sheamus 78 272 John "Bradshaw" Layfield 78 290 Jack Swagger 78 263 Batista 78 290 Stan Stasiak 77 272 Sgt. I knew there was a reason I liked Sheamus! Other than the fact that his skin deflects harmful UV rays?

I'm currently digging around through FCW to see if there are any diamonds in the rough that match this, but, if the Jerry Saggs thing was dead on, if I'm right, then they scaled up a bit in height, while weight remained basically the same, give or take.
EDIT: Believe it or not, the closest developmental talent to those stats is none other than "Make it a win" Titus O'Neill. Big E. Langston is the other closest in weight, but is two pounds over, and 5" too short.

Personally, I think the weight is skewed heavy on the champions list, because while they do love their big men, there are a significant number of people who are well below the average champion weight. There are just some people who are way over that weight.

This is surprisingly insightful, since the "average" seems to be very close to those guys built up into main eventers in a very short time and groomed to be top stars from day one (Warrior, Lesnar), and the modern equivalents on the roster (Masters, Sheffield, Ryan, even [freaky hair/skin aside] Sheamus) seem to be guys who look like the archetypal stereotype of the big musclebound guy who Vince likes, and were all either pushed strongly early on or who are being protected by the booking and kept looking good enough that they could potentially be pushed in the near future.
Husky's a bit of an anomaly, though.

hawk405359, I found a typographical error! You listed HBK as 83 inches instead of 73. So that threw your data off a bit.
For the heights, the mean is 75.26 inches with a standard deviation of 4.18 inches. Median is 74 inches.
For weights, the mean is 273.06 with a standard deviation of 75.92. Median is 250.
I'm gonna keep playing with the data to see if Yokozuna counts as an outlier and if we can toss him out when considering weight. But first I need water.
