I was reading about Over The Edge on Wikipedia, and found a link to the original PPV page from WWF.com. What surprised me was this line: According to that site, requirements included a sound card, and a 28.8 modem. Did anyone try that? When did they start offering this? Wouldn't the quality for live, streaming video in the late 90's have been pretty darn low?

Oh yeah, the quality on a 28.8 or even 56k modem would've been utter garbage by today's standards. But the technology was so new back then that we just sort of accepted it.

The quality was complete crap, but it was nice to be able to watch the PPV without having satellite or something. Hell, I watched WM 19 online using Dial up. Looking back, it was NOT worth the $30 or whatever they were charging as it lagged pretty bad and the quality was very blurry, but I thought it was wonderful back then.

The WWF really did try and have an online presence in the 90s by using AOL chats and in 98/99 having a 'Code Red' show on after RAW. Granted these things didn't work but hey they were trying.
Oh and wasn't ECW Cyberslam streamed online as well? How was that quality.

They streamed one of the wcw ppv's online from wcw.com back in 1999. I watched it, 56k modem and all, quality wasnt great but hey, it was a "free" ppv and Jericho was a guest commentator, bonus (forget the ppv, it was the one where the dogs attacked sting and piper boxed bagwell).

Don't discuss illegal download and/or streaming sites, programs, etc. I've already had to delete a few posts in here.

I never tried it. I just couldn't see myself watching it because of quality. I remember watching video clips on WWF.com and they quality wasn't great and this was like 00 or 01. So paying to see a whole event in that just didn't seem worth it.
Now days, I could see myself doing it one day. Since I do have fast net connections. I'm sure WWE.com Quality light years better then it was 10+ years ago. But since my friend gets most all WWE PPVs. I go over there to watch most of the time. But there always the couple I miss for whatever reason.

That would have been Great American Bash 99 Holy crap I MUST see this show, sounds like a real disaster. It also featured the Rap v. Country feud prominently, the ongoing WHITE HUMMER angle, and a Nash/Randy Savage World Title main event, the buildup of which has Nash spraying sewage waste onto Macho and his ladies a good FOUR YEARS before Eddie did it to Big Show. Just goes to show you that even in the "dark days", WCW was ALWAYS innovating! And just because, that match ended in a DQ when SIIIIIID returned to WCW to attack Nash. WCW was bad bad BAAAAAAD back then.
