Ok, we know thats not happening. He obviously will leave again. The thing is this though. How can he leave without looking like a major hypocrite?
My theory..or you may as well call this a prediction. We see what happened 10 years ago all over again. Only this time John Cena is in the Stone Cold role, and Rock is in the...well Rock role.
Cena takes out Rock with Vince's help and then Vince fires Rock for good. That way Rock can leave without breaking his promise. At least from the point of view that he didn't leave willingly.
Just a crazy scenario. Allthough Cena did just Tweet that he was grabbing a a chain and lock from the chamber. hmmmmm
Like I said, just some crazy fantasy booking on my part, I didn't even think what would lead up to that, just that scenario itself.

Sounds good in theory. The one problem is The Rock isn't an employee anymore and just a guest show.

Well yeah he's not technically an employee, but even kayfabe wise he has a contract for the Wrestlemania gig. Besides, I was more leaning towards Vince being more like "YOU"RE FIIIIIIIRED...for life!, you will never return". Something along those lines.

The Rock's a liar.
This is a surprise to no one I hope.

He'll never leave in the same way that any Legend (capital L) in good standing with WWE will always be counted on to make an appearance here or there at least once a year.

He said he was never going away.
I saw this as him saying that he'd always come back and never disassociate himself from the WWE entirely.

To paraphrase the Great One...' IT DOESN'T MATTER if he looks like a hypocrite.'
He is The Rock. No one will care.

I think what he meant is that he'll continue to show up on a much more regular basis, a few times a year vs once every 7 years. Hell, if he's capable to do a short feud between movies, that would be all the better.

He will have a regular involvement with the WWE. Probably like Steve Austin and some of the legends that show up every 5 days.

Of course he's going away, but I think the poster above me has it on the money.
He will ALWAYS be The Rock in one way or another, deep down.

He said he was never going away. I saw this as him saying that he'd always come back and never disassociate himself from the WWE entirely. This is how I read things as well. Anyone who took it to mean 'I'm back full-time' is either a sucker or heard what they really wanted to hear.

A lot of fans don't think that deeply about things, they take things at face value. He promised never to leave again. I'm just saying that when it comes time for him to leave, they do it in a way to make it look like he was forced to leave. That way it doesn't make him or WWE look as bad for breaking a promise. At least in the eyes of fans who don't care what Rock really meant to say as apposed to what he actually said. I dunno, its just when he said that, I got thinking how they would cover their asses when he did leave. The forcing him out thing seemed to make the most sense. More than likely... they'll pretend he never said it .

I took it as he'll be making more than one appearance every 25 years. I don't believe for a second that he'd be back in a full or even Undertaker-like capacity after Wrestlemania.
