Inspired by the thread bringing up random and amusing moments from the Smackdown series. What's anyone who's played these games random memories of these forgotten classics? Because they were on the Gamecube, they suffered a little as not many people had one of those consoles. However the games were great. They played smoothly, the looked good and were realistically the closest thing to competing with the Smackdown series as any WWE games on the Xbox were falling well short of the mark. I think the obvious one to start it off and it'll provoke a few bad memories is.... THAT Fatal 4 Way Cage Match in DOR 2!!! {Spoiler}In story mode in Day of Reckoning 2, the World Heavyweight Championship is stolen by a mystery criminal and the whole storyline of the year long story mode is your CAW battling to clear his name as the main suspect.
Along the way, the Intercontinental Championship becomes Raw's #1 Championship belt due to the World Title being missing.
Bischoff books a Fatal 4 Way Cage Match at Summerslam between you, Kane, Christian and Shawn Michaels.
There's a 30 minute time limit and only one way to win. Escape the cage.
The story mode in DOR 2 is one of those modes where you MUST win every match to advance to the next week. Not like games like HCTP where you could lose from time to time and things would progress.
A very, very frustrating match in WWE games history!! Also I liked the choice of legends in Day of Reckoning 2. There was only 5 but it was the 5 best ones they could possibly choose. Hogan, Bret, The Rock, Austin and Mankind. Meanwhile the legends in the first Day of Reckoning were Andre, Piper, Bret Hart, Brutus Beefcake and Greg Valentine.

That match was actually easy to me. I like playing it in storymode.
I'll bring up something that always bother me in that game, Triple H's abs. It look like he had a 8 pack of fat.

Yea, the DOR games are seriously underrated. I loved them mostly because of the awesome spots that you could pull off during HIAC and TLC matches. The Smackdown series STILL hasn't done a Hell in a Cell match as good as the DOR series (or hell, Wrestlemania 18 for that matter). I loved how you could do any move through the cell roof and the landing would be appropriate. It was really cool when you could do the move in just the right spot and miss the ring completely, landing on the outside instead.
That fatal 4 way cage match wasn't a big deal to me the first time I played it. I won the match on my first attempt and didn't have much of a problem with it. It was only after I tried to play the story mode a few years later (after seeing hundreds of people bitching about the match) that I realized how amazingly frustrating the damn match is.

I cannot put into words how much I hated that fatal four way (I literally can't, the admins would ban me).
Now, onto the positives. The idea of a momentum shift is something they should have kept, especially when you consider that that sort of matches the purpose for certain moves. I actually saw the DOR games as kind of the new generation No Mercy games, the games you could expect to have obscure Japanese moves. One of the things that, for whatever reason, bugged me was the fact that you could literally have a finisher for every position, something like eight finishers. I mean, it was useful, but it was also kind of excessive.

In DOR 1 I always chose to put my CAW on Raw, so therefore got the Evolution storyline however I opted for Smackdown once and instead it was The Ministry.
A vague memory in my head is telling me the Ministry in Day of Reckoning 1 consisted of Undertaker, Big Show, Charlie Haas and Mark Jindrak!? Taker and Show were definites but I'm fuzzy on the other two. Can anyone remember?

I remember hearing about the 4 way cage on gamefaqs and when I got around to that part of the story mode I was dreading it. But, I ended up winning it on my first attempt in under 10 minutes. lol Total fluke though. Me and the CPU players were all down, I was first up and made my way up the cage. They all got up just as I was climbing over.
I remember on DOR 1, either when you're working house shows or on Heat and you're about to have a tag match. You're told to let Rhyno get the pinfall to boost his morale. So you tag him in and he does anything but go for a pin!

This is what I'm talking about Triple H's abs Just about everybody looked, well, odd. Everyone looked rubber, and the CAW's looked plasticine. Although, when you think of it, they had better CAW's than you can't seem to get on the SVR's (except for just recently). Their clothes didn't look painted on; in fact, they looked halfway normal.

I think the most farfetched thing in any WWE game is them cancelling the main event of WrestleMania at the last minute.

Having to press the "A" button repeatedly to get your guy up = Frustration
Though, I do love the move animations, especially the one used for the Shining Wizard.

In DOR 1, THAT match with Ric Flair. You couldn't even win that match even if you tried to.

Submission Match with Kurt Angle in DOR 2 Season Mode.... Ouch.
Although before I got to it, I'd been reading a strategy guide as I went along so I was prepared for it (After the farce the 4 way cage match I thought I'd be prepared for what was to come).
The guide said the best way to win the match was stay out the ring as it wasn't falls count anywhere. Just use as many weapons as possible to weaken him right to his very last ounce of energy. Throw him back in the ring once you're certain he's beaten beyond belief and then put in a submission hold and he'll tap right away.
It took me a loooooong time but I did win the match first time because Angle reversed EVERYTHING. Every weapon shot he would block somehow.

In DOR 1, THAT match with Ric Flair. You couldn't even win that match even if you tried to. I once did 'win' the match via countout, but it was followed by the usual cutscene of his crew beating your guy's ass.

I still play Day of Reckoning 2. It wasn't perfect, but it was a fantastic game.
I remember beating THAT cage match on my second attempt. There was another match 4-way match that I struggled with a lot more. My memory of story mode is foggy, but I know I beat all the challenges eventually.

I hated that fatal four way cage match so goddamn much. As for the Angle match, I remember the first time I ran out of time. Think he had me in the ankle lock on the ramp at the time.
And here's another evil one - Cena in the cage at No Way Out.
