Yea I remember Lawler talking about never having drank, smoked, or done any drugs before in an interview for Confidential I believe. I was VERY shocked when he said that he had never drank before. Considering that he's an old school wrestler and just seems like the type. Then again, Punk seems like the type that would snort coke off a strippers butt. *sighs* why do books even have covers?

I'm 32, roughly halfway to Lawler, and haven't done any of that yet either. Lots of reasons, but that's not the thread for this.
And yes, I don't call myself 'straight-edge' since I'm not punk. I'm like the opposite, a progressive metal sort of guy. (although I love most music).
Yeah, I like Mr. King a little more now.

I believe Jake Roberts would disagree about the "not a sip" of alcohol part, as witnessed in Jake the Snake: Pick Your Poison. Not to say spitting whiskey constitutes drinking it, but he has tasted it But more power to him, the guy looks great for his age. And while I don't know if he's straight edge, I did recall an interview with Al Snow in which he mentions that he lives a pretty natural life, opting for vitamins and meditation as opposed to pain meds when dealing with the pains of wrestling.

I'm 30 and the same way and damn proud of it, as should Lawler. I can't imagine it was very easy growing up in a wrestling enviroment.. I remember watching a shoot with him and him mentioning this.. I thought it was so cool.

Yeah, Jake said the liquor was real when it could have been tea or something. I have no reason to believe Jake is wrong, but I've read that Jake's shoot interviews are partly truth and partly fiction and that it's not always easy to tell what are the lies and what is the truth with him.

I highly doubt that Jerry Lawler is involved with the punk or hardcore culture, so no. He is not straight edge. Guys. Seriously. Being sober and being straight edge are NOT the same thing. Yeah you can be one, and claim the other.

Honestly I'm more surprised on how good an artist Lawler is. If the man never wrestled a single match in his life, he could made a good living as an commercial artist.

Also Lawler was on the documentary pretty much confirming it was real. Still, smoking a cigarette one day for a TV show doesn't exactly make you a smoker if you never do it again.

I remember seeing Jerry Lawler in a strip club on an episode of "Insomniac w/Dave Attell", yet I don't remember him having a drink. If he can turn down having drinks with Dave Attell in such a place, that's saying something. I'm pretty sure Lawler is a bit of a health freak. Not the point of religiously counting calories, but you don't see many guys of his age in the kind of shape he is, particularly after eleventy billion years of wrestling. Yeah, if you want to see how well that clean living does for someone, just compare Lawler to Flair. There is only a 6 month age difference there. Jerry Lawler has outlived Jim Fixx. That's f***ed up, yo.

I'm not 100% sure, but this looks like an alcoholic beverage in Hunter's hand: Looks like a glass of water with a lemon slice in it to me. Though I guess it could be vodka. I don't think Triple H never touches alcohol, I think when they say he doesn't drink, they mean he's not one to go hit the bars after a show. As far as I've read, he'll have the occasional drink, but never gets drunk.

There's a segment he was on for Insomniac with Dave Attell where he was drinking at a strip club.

Triple H doesn't drink, apparently. I'm not 100% sure, but this looks like an alcoholic beverage in Hunter's hand: Seriously? Yeah, it's just water with a slice of lemon. I'd bet on it. As has been said, Hunter doesn't drink to black out, which is probably for the best considering the guys he ran with. If you really want to rag on a guy who says he never drinks, just point out since all fruit ferments, all fruit juice contains trace amounts of alcohol. So there ya go, your morning orange juice does have some alcohol in it.

There's a difference between being sober and being straight edge.
Being sober means you don't drink, smoke or do drugs. Being straight edge means you don't drink, smoke or do drugs and you're really f***ing smug about it.

Bill Shatner is another person who looks extremely well for his age. For 79, he looks like a man in his 50s.

You don't NEED to be a punk, no. But straight edge is at its roots a musical thing, and to separate music from straight edge is like ripping out its heart, to me. I mean, one could be straight edge and a rapper or a pop fan for all I care, but the point, at least to me, is the music and having a culture of sobriety within a music culture.
I swear to God that that paragraph made sense in my head but I've had the longest week ever, haven't slept properly in God knows how long and have cried twice tonight for separate reasons, so... Who knows if what I'm saying is coming out right.
I guess, being straight edge is just about more than sobriety, you know? When it just starts to mean "sober person" then it loses its meaning and becomes nothing more than a stupid clique. People think of it enough like that as it is, you know?
To me, straight edge has always been about music, first and foremost.

I think that's really cool. I'm sure I heard it before, probably on Confidential, but I didn't remember before coming into this thread.
I'm going to call BS on Jake Robert's claim that Jerry Lawler spit real booze into his face instead of iced tea. Did Lawler ever comment on it in his shoot? Sorry, I just dont trust a word that comes out of Jake's mouth.
It would've been interesting if Lawler had been out with Cole/JBL/Austin on Monday, to see what Lawler would have done if Stone Cold had handed him a beer. If Austin ends up reffing that match at WM and Lawler wins, we might very well see what happens as I assume Lawler/Austin would celebrate together after that match....

Yeah, he is a really good artist. The interesting thing is that it was his artwork that indirectly got him into wrestling. As he would draw charactertures of wrestlers and his drawing of announcer Lance Russell got Lawler on TV for the first time, I think.

He's got plausible deniability, but come on...that's gin or something.
