But Triple H has been back for two weeks. He wasn't there tonight, but EVERY promo/interview has been about how great Triple H is.
The promo on Smackdown after the returns had a voiceover saying:
"ONLY THE MAJESTIC WARRIOR WOULD DARE INTERRUPT THE UNDERTAKER!" "ONLY TRIPLE H COULD STEAL THE SPOTLIGHT!" "ONLY TRIPLE H WOULD DARE LOOK INTO THE EYES OF THE DEADMAN"
Triple H's promo and Undertaker's 2 promos have basically been saying how great he is, HBK has been saying how great he is. All the commentators are backing Triple H it seems.
I know they have to build up the 'The Streak could be broken this year!' thing but it just seems overkill. Triple H is great, I get it!
So yeah, maybe it's just blind hate, the reign of terror really left a bad taste in my mouth and I can't help but roll my eyes at this stuff.
That said, i'm looking forward to the match, it should be pretty good.

Isn't that how every angle with Triple H goes, where the other guy HAS to say how good HHH is? I remember them doing that when Cena had his angle with him.

They're trying to trick you into thinking Undertaker isn't just going to beat him like he did last time.

It's only going to worse when Triple H takes over. No, not with current angles, but with the revisionist history saying that Triple H is one of, if not the, greatest of all time.

As much as HHH's stuff has reeked of Informed Ability, they have to put over that he has a good chance of defeating Taker somehow.
Hence the sudden show of appreciation and the apparent disappearance of HHH's loss at Mania ten years ago.

I don't even mind it that much. They're just building up to Haitch appear to be a legitimate threat to The Undertaker's streak.

WWE always does that. They're convinced that Triple H is some sort of "Icon", when he is FAR from it

What are you talking about, Bob? Triple H and The Undertaker never wrestled at 'Mania before.

I find it funny how apparently Triple H is the only challenger for the Undertaker, even though 'Taker spent the months building up to his absence from WWE getting completely destroyed by Kane like 3 or 4 times in a row and then buried alive by Nexus and Triple H got put on the shelf for a year by Sheamus.
Surely that makes them worthy opponents?

I'm just glad his retirement is coming. I think I'll love HHH behind the scenes.

I really wonder how good the actual match will end up being. I mean, they're both old pros, and I don't doubt that they will bring their A game, but Taker is still pretty hobbled according to what I've been reading. Most likely, given the stage and the buildup, I think they can put on a good match, but I'm not sure it will be able to steal the show like Taker and HBK have done the last 2 years. And I realize thats a pretty high standard to meet.

And I realize thats a pretty high standard to meet. Someone with some ability to make the crowd give two s***s could do it, but not HHH. That's the problem with his character, and theoretically why he and Taker should stay FAR the f*** away from each other: Hunter doesn't DO pathos and Taker supposedly is kind of invincible or at the very least, tough as hell. Hunter has ALWAYS needed an Austin, or a Shawn or Foley or Flair or Rock to bring pathos by the bucketload to his matches. I think he's in for a very rude awakening if he thinks HIS sendoff is going to be a tenth as emotional as Shawn's was. Hunter....not to take anything away from his skill at being a villain, but Hunter is not a guy the fans have EVER really attached to like they did Rock, Austin, Shawn, or even Flair. Personally, I will look at it like "FINALLY. Now go work your magic and use your knowledge to make stuff better behind the scenes! That's where you're NEEDED, ya knucklehead!" ;D

But on a serious note, that's always been his character: the self-aggrandizing, self-stroking, self-absorbed heel. The problem comes when he books himself to be as infallible as he wants himself to be. I mean, even at the peak of HBK's arrogance, you could believe he could lose a match, which made you all the more excited when he pulled one of if you were a fan, or made you all that much more anxious to see his mouth shut for him if you weren't. Basically, they're trying to bill Hogan/Warrior all over again. But Hogan/Warrior would never work in today's WWE. Unfortunately, they only way they'll get that is through a collective shrug throughout the entire WWE universe, followed by low buyrates and an underwhelming enthusiasm for their matchup.

The Undertaker gains nothing by beating someone he thinks inferior.
It's booking 101 - if you put your opponent over as being damn good, then beat them, you are logically damn, damn good.
