Is it just me, or is this guy so bland ?
Out of all the other rookies on Season 4, he seemed lack the most charisma.

Aw, he wasn't that bad. I'm looking forward to seeing him carry Truth.

People once thought Cody had no charisma, too.
You'll all see. One day. You'll all see.

Let's re examine the cast for Season 4.
Jacob Novak - cocky, pretty-boy heel
Conor O'Brian - human rat sorta gimmick where he was obsessed with cheese
Byron Saxton - cocky arrogant color commentator turned pro wrestler
Derrick Bateman - off the wall goofy and nerdy oddball, but it was getting over the fans
Brodus Clay - monster heel who knows his historical wrestling trivia
Johnny Curtis - I am just saying it seemed vanilla plain out there, when you look at it from the entertainment aspect.

I think he's starting to grow on me, actually. Granted, keeping Brodus Clay off my TV is probably helping my perceptions.

Shows you how much I paid attention to NXT season 4, up until a minute ago, I thought Johnny was the guy who wrestled Braden Walker on ECW. Turns out that was James Curtis.

The biggest problem he has is the lack of a gimmick.
He needs to bring back germophobic-latex-gloves-Curtis.

Ribbon dancer works too. <3 He's just so loveable. I don't get how people don't like him I'll leave you all a quote from Twitter. ColtCabana Colt Cabana Congrats to @johnnywwe. I once saw him publicly dry hump B Brian Blair in just a thong. It...Was...AMAZING! ...WAIT CRAP, THAT WAS THE WRONG QUOTE TheCurtHawkins Curt Hawkins Congrats to @johnnywwe . Believe me nobody has ever deserved it more. The WWE Universe will grow to love him like his peers already have. There we go. That's the right one.

He has KIND of grown on me. But I thought Big Brodus should have won.

hopefully we get a fulltime tag team out of this with him & Truth...feuds against Corre and Team DZP would be sweet

Novak's gimmick was that he came out to the ring in a white suit jacket. Isn't that enough? White suits are awesome.

The thing I noticed was that he seemed to be trying way too hard to be funny and likeable, with all the "one man wolfpack", quoting The Hangover nonsense. The ribbon dance was kinda funny, but otherwise he was just grating for the most part.
Best wrestler of the bunch though. I like the idea of him and Truth teaming on a permanent basis.

Yeah, I think the deal is that when you compare him to Derrick Bateman, he seems somewhat underwhelming, as does other certain comparisons. But when you think about it, he's a good worker, seems pretty likable. At the very least, we ought to give him a chance before we start to say the NXT universe made a mistake.
