...Did I miss something? People were going on and on about how awful it was in the RAW thread but it just looked...normal to me. I was expecting Jumping Jeff Farmer vs. Mike McGuillicutty levels of awful but is mostly looked like two guys talking outside of Truth trying to talk over Morrison at several points.

To me, it wasn't awful, just downright random. I mean, you've got Morrison ranting about how Troof drank water before facing Cena in that Gauntlet Match, and acting like it's some sort of sin to do such a thing, and of course, randomly bringing up Troof's smoking problem.

I think it's because everyone expects some over the top promo everytime a superstar opens their mouth, like Miz or CM Punk. It just came across as two friends having a conversation. Nothing wrong with that.

It was hilarious in how awkward it was. You had JoMo out there, just picking out any random facet of R-Truth and being a dick about it, and then you had R-Truth, scrambling to respond, and sometimes laughing along as JoMo insulted him. It wasn't BAD, per se, it was just REALLY weird.

Crowd : -Silence- R Truth : *laughing* And a cigarette? Crowd : -Silence-

And the way they tried to set up Truth as the heel after Morrison spent most of the promo before the match insulting him and trying to goad him into risking his contendership was...not working.

Nothing wrong with that. And honestly, I prefer it that way. I'm not looking for over-the-top, Emmy worthy promos between friends or enemies. One of the things I love about Austin is that he doesn't go off on HHH-like ten minute scripted speeches: he actually sounds like he wants to get one and only one thing across, who's ass he's gonna whoop and why.

Seemed like a really rushed way to reverse a half-hearted punishment for Morrison than anything else.

If they just wanted to use it as a way to get Morrison's spot back, they could have just done the match and be done with it. Why go through the effort of turning Truth heel, and risk getting heat for having him smoke on TV?

It seemed more of a natural conversation, the way they were both talking over each other at times rather than one big speech followed by a retort.
I'm not sure natural conversation translates too well to the wrestling promo.

They certainly seemed to be toying with when Cena was in Nexus. But you could be right, no doubt.

I LOVED it. I loved how happy Truth was at first. I loved how dickish JoMo was. I loved the little dance Truth did.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but it seemed to me as if John Morrison was trying to say R-Truth has a stamina problem -- he was exhausted after his match and apparently (a la Randy Orton) may be short-winded because he smokes.
He was saying the reason Truth hasn't gotten over in a big way is because he doesn't take care of his body.
But that's just me. It seemed to have a point. Other people thought it was random, apparently.

Why go through the effort of turning Truth heel, and risk getting heat for having him smoke on TV? If anything, WWE should push the envelope more. I thought the smoking thing was really effective, it felt DIFFERENT which was nice. Who cares if they get a little heat from some nitwit parents? I certainly do not. And face Truth was the stalest thing ever, his heel turn could breathe some life into his career and to Raw. The segment was awkward, but it accomplished a lot and was definitely memorable.

Which would be fine, if R-Truth wasn't the guy who dominated a gauntlet match, in kayfabe a serious test of stamina, the week before getting himself a spot in the main event of a pay-per-view for the WWE Championship. He even pinned Morrison clean during it, so it's kind of a weird timing for (face) Morrison to claim he's the better choice when water chugging, cigarette smoking, wind sucking R-Truth kicked his ass in the middle of a gauntlet match Truth spent the longest time in.

spoiled-by-Miz/Jericho/Punk-promos-IWC is spoiled Since when is Miz lumped in with the best promo guys around? As for Morrison/Truth it wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't good either. It was just.........something.
