The name change SUCKED at the time, but it wasn't really that big of a deal over time. The timing's just right, that you could spin it into the WWF, WCW, and ECW merging to form the WWE. Imagine telling that to your 1998 selves.
WWE Is a stupid name. It's almost like a punchline to a joke. If it were me, I'd have added the extra W back in, and became the World Wide Wrestling Federation again. Switch back to the historic silver and gold block logo. Keep the attitude.

Still hate WWE and find it funny that non fans and even some of us will refer to it as WWF. Besides which, World Wrestling Federation Champion sounds a lot better to me than World Wrestling Entertainment Champion. Especially when Fink says it.

I still catch myself saying "WWF" sometimes. Never in writing, but out loud, it just slips sometimes.

One thing I do miss is Howard Finkle announcing "The following bout is scheduled for one fall, and it is for The World Wrestling Federation [Intercontinental/European/Tag Team/etc.] Championship"
Now it's for the WWE Championship, and it still doesn't feel as important. Even before they were strictly WWE, The World Wrestling Entertainment Championship just would have sounded dumb.

Should have taken "WCW" as the name.
It was slightly tarnished, but so was "WWF" after the steroid trial and it survived.

I recall my cousin telling me that the WWF were getting sued by the WWF For Nature because of the name, so I was well aware of the change before I watched the most recent RAW...but like many others, I thought it was a stupid change and like the poster before me, they could've just changed it back to the WWWF and problem solved.
Didn't HHH say one time that if he were to take over the WWE, he would change it back at the expense of their profits?

I was still pissed about WCW going out of business to care about the name change.

Meh.
I'm not attached to things like that. The name change was funny for a little bit, just to see Vince finally getting beaten at something.
Whatever. Seriously. Howard Finkel's announcing doesn't mean anything to me. I used to have a problem with everyone saying "The WWE", because it's grammatically incorrect. Since I know most wrestling fans hate any kind of change, that didn't change, either.
Whatever.

I still miss it being called the WWF. Most of the time if I'm talking to someone who's not a fan, I'll call it the WWF because that's still what they call it.

I remember watching smackdown! one week and the usual WWF logos were around then the next week the current logo was shown and crew members, and I think a few of the wrestlers were wearing 'get the F out' shirts. I didn't know what was going on but I think I found out a few days later why they changed the name. I didn't like it then and I still don't. 'WWF' symbolizes a 3-4 decade legacy that is gradually being forgotten since that name change.

I got used to it pretty quickly.
I really enjoyed 2002 as a whole, up until that whole Katie Vick thing. Then Survivor Series that year was an awesome PPV, and I was happy again.
Good times.

Even before they were strictly WWE, The World Wrestling Entertainment Championship just would have sounded dumb. What I find funny is that in a 1998 interview, Vince McMahon himself said if he could take the "Wrestling" part of out World Wrestling Federation he would, well he did just that. The company no longer has wrestling in its name.

This might sound stupid, but when the name change occurred I thought it had something to do with the brand extension. After all, the RAW/SmackDown split happened a few weeks beforehand. The switch must have happened around the time the company's magazine was going to press, because the cover had the new WWE logo but everything inside was "the World Wrestling Federation" and the old scratch logo. Here's the press release from that fateful day: corporate.wwe.com/news/2002/2002_05_06.jspAlthough I've gotten used to the name change, it still irks me when the announcers refer to the company as "the WWE." Now if we're talking about "the WWE champion" or "the WWE title" then OK, that's fine. But hearing "The Undertaker is the best pure striker in the WWE," just doesn't sound right. It's like when Bret Hart referred to Ted Turner's company as "the WCW" or WWE's August PPV as "the SummerSlam." I always envision Vince being sued by a group of irate English teachers, after which the company debuts a new campaign: "Get the 'The' Out!"
