Just been watching the hardcore match from 2004. I forgot how good it was. I find Orton really boring now, in and out of the ring but I remember watching this live and thinking 'Wow!' and 'OUCH!' lol I think this match went a long way in creating the future main eventer he became later in the year.

Yep. I'd also suggest that the reason this match was so awesome when Orton's matches usually meant headlock-o' clock at this point in time was probably because Foley was in the best f***ing shape of his life and knows how to make a hardcore match both brutal and psychological.

Brilliant match, Foley at his greatest and although I'm not an Orton fan, huge respect to what he put himself through in this one. That thumbtack spot... yikes.
I saw it for the first time on the Foley DVD, and right after it I watched the Edge match at WM22. I always remembered the Edge match fondly, but watching them back to back it really showed how much better the Orton match is. Foley's said himself that his heart wasn't in the WM22 match, and I think it shows.

The best match to be ***** and yet not the best match on the PPV. That's probably the only original analysis I can add to this thread.

That match made Orton. Easily the favorite match that Orton had that I liked.

Just that made the match You just KNEW this was the first time Orton had taken a bump on thumbtacks. The look on his face is 40% pain & 60% shock.
