I feel like WWE has really raised its game since 2010. I thought in 2010 they began to create new stars (Miz, Sheamus, Ziggler), although they were a little erractic with their booking of them, and had some good fueds.
The original Nexus invasion was startling TV. Then from that, Cena VS Nexus and the whole saga was perhaps the best fued Cena had in years. I felt like it actually gained Cena the most crowd support he had in years. His matches with Barret were fantatic as well, as was his 'farewell speech'. It sucks WWE ruined it by having the fired Cena keep showing up every week, but overall it was good TV.
Also even though the matches were s***e, it was great to see Kane finally get a world title reign (a thank you reign surely) for the first time since his one day reign in 98. He did some awesome promos, I'll give him that, and it was great to see him beat Taker. Paul Bearer coming back was a nice touch.
I also enjoyed the rise of face Orton, as well as heel batista in the early part of the year, and CM Punk's SES.
Some people are whining about WM 27, but overall I feel 2011 has continued the gradual upswing in quality.
My point however is, Oh Jesus, how s*** was RAW in 2009? Whenever I look back to it, I seriously question how I stayed a fan. So many times I would watch it and think, why am I watching this?
Whenever I think back to RAW in 09, I just think of me cringing at awful guest host spots. These D list celebs coming up with the useless Bella twins to plug a product. I think of idiots like Cedric the Entertainer taking a big chunk out of my wrestling show. I think of toupee wearing, unfunny man Jeremy Piven reffering to Summerslam as 'Summerfest'. I think of a cringeworthy speech from Ricky Hatton, and even Mike Tyson embarassing himself.
It also meant that so many times, the 'BIG MAIN EVENT' for the evening wouldn't happen until 5 minutes before the show went off the air, so you just knew there was going to be a false finish. Nonsensical booking was also at its peak that year. Smackdown was good though.
What the hell were WWE thinking?? I am so glad the weekly guest hosts are gone from RAW.
