Michael Hayes debuting as Tyson Kidd's manager was well handled, giving him promo time before the match and having Kidd go over, putting over his use as a manager. The announcers discussing great managers of the past was a nice touch. Barreta and Kidd tore it up with a back forth athletic showcase that got the crowd into it with lots of near falls. I knew from the spoilers who won but I was popping for the near falls anyway, they were really good. Loved the match, loved Hayes, even loved the ref.
Zack Ryder is awesome. I see why he gets so much love, its just sad that I hear more about him on here than I see him on TV. His chest bumping Kozlov with the "r u serious bro!?" gave me a good laugh. Hawkins running in to help Zack, followed by a quick but effective bro hug and the proclamation that "the broski's are BACK!" seem to cement their reformed tag team, which is much better idea than Zack's odd-couple teaming with Primo in DZP (though Primo strutting around in designer shades was worth it).
Masters vs. McIntyre was a really strong match with both guys showing a lot. McIntyre is so good as a heel on the offensive, he way he mixes in new counters and spots with his sadistic brawling keeps the match popping, rather than getting bogged down into "heel uses restholds and stomps for a while and gets unconvincing 2 counts until the big comeback" formula. Masters is one of the most underrated sellers around, in that I don't hear nearly enough about how great he is at it. He really gave the impression that he was working on 1 leg and fighting through the pain, it was very impressive to me. Both guys need serious pushes in my estimation.
Overall, Superstars felt like the best of the old mixed with the best of the new. The use of Michael Hayes, Chris Masters being a classic 80s style face, the gimmick clash of a broski vs. a soviet crusher, Scott Stanford's old school New Yawker boxing announcer style, all this mixed in with the high impact, crisp wrestling style we see today. I felt like that was one of the best WWE shows I've seen in a while and indicates what they're really starting to get right in this new generation they're trying to establish.
