Purchase a PS2 and a copy of SVR2006, as Day of Reckoning is nothing more than an expensive piece of garbage.

It's been a while, but I think you have to hit one of the shoulder buttons just before the cpu strikes. If your timing is right then you should be able to pass that part.
Again it's been over a year since I last played that game, but from what I remember that's the way to do it. You might want to see if any site has FAQS for that game still if that doesn't work.

What you have to do is tap the L trigger just as he goes to grapple you. then press the A button to launch a counter grapple. It's tricky but wth persistance you'll eventually pull it off or you'll pull it off by fluke like me.
And seeing how my PS2 is packed in my closet away because it no longer runs I always find it amusing when a PS2 owner calls something else garbage.

It just has a rubbish story mode and a lack of match types. The actual singles matches are great. And just use the tutorial mode, it tells you how to do everything. And I'm another one whos PS2, only a couple of years old, has stopped working. Yet my gamecube that I bought at launch is still going strong.

Seeing as the PS2 is taking quite a hit, I figured I'd back up my claim. I've owned my PS2 since launch and it works perfectly fine (granted, Sony may have launched a planned obsolescence campaign since then, but who knows?). While I'm not particularly fond of the Nintendo's fall from grace, the Gamecube, I didn't say anything about the console being bad.
However, I do believe that DOR is a very mediocre wrestling game. Gameplay and controls are a piss poor attempt to recapture the intuitiveness of No Mercy. The pace of the game is too fast, collisions and damage are far from great, and SvR2006 is just a better game, outright.
Again, its my opinion, but I think going from the PS2's wrestling games to the 'Cube's is like going from steak to ground hamburger meat.

It's hard as hell to do man. Just try to dodge it at the right time by pressing one of the top buttons...make sure to do a grapple move as your counter because it wont count if you do a punch reversal of any type. It took me a few hours to get, not easy at all. Good Luck!

I really dig smackdown vs raw as well, but I think it can learn a lot from the DOR series. The selling and reversals are all much better in DOR2 than in SDvsRAW2006, even if SDvsRAW wins in terms of number of modes and match types.
And I loved no mercy at the time, but both DOR2 and SDvsRAW2006 are better than it nowadays. I played no mercy the other day, and it hasn't aged well.
And I don't really think it's a matter for debate that the PS2 is a really cheaply made console, that a lot of people have problems with. I know people who have gone through 4 PS2s. Nintendo hardware is much more reliable. That's not a fanboy comment- I have both consoles and I probably play the PS2 more. Well, I did until it broke anyway....

The selling is much, much better in DoR1 and 2 i must agree. When playing SDvR 06' i wonder how everyone manages to flip about 3 times after the pedigree

DoR2 > SvR'06
I own both. DoR2 has a better control system, it just lacks modes.
