But hadn't the WCW title been turned into the "World" title after the Alliance lost at Survivor Series? It had, but it was still the same championship regardless. Saying otherwise would be the equivalent of saying that the WWWF title held by Rogers, Sammartino, and Backlund was a totally different championship from the one held by Hogan, Savage, Hart, Austin, etc. Or that that title was totally different from the one currently held by the Miz.

I recognize Booker T as being the final WCW Champion. I still can't accept guys like Kurt Angle and The Rock being in that lineage.

I thought the same thing, and when Austin stunned Booker, I knew that there was more to it then by chance.

But, like I mentioned, Booker winning the belt on the final Nitro was 100% Vince's decision, so it's really no different then Angle or Rocky winning it. Steiner is the last WCW Champ booked by WCW to win the strap

Well I mean if you think of the last "true" WCW Champ as being the last one who was actually booked to win the title by WCW, then it would have to be Steiner, as Booker's title win on the last Nitro was booked by the WWF. *edit* Nevermind, the poster above beat me to it.

Remember at Bash at the Beach 2000 when Russo said that there would be a NEW WCW Championship? Hollywood Hogan is the last WCW Champion of the original lineage. That is, if everybody hadn't immediately ignored Russo's declaration, including Russo himself.
As a WCW loyalist/nerd, I doubt Edge/Del Rio was put on first as a knock towards WCW, since Vince doesn't even consider the World Title to be the same title (don't get me started on that, considering it split off from the Undisputed Championship). I doubt Booker T. was given a stunner to piss off any WCW fan in the crowd. However, I do have to question not putting some WCW mainstays in the Hall of Fame this year. If there was any year to induct someone like Arn, this year would have been perfect.

I get the feeling Arn would want Ric Flair to present his induction, so waiting for him to leave TNA may be factor in Double A's lack of induction.
However, it was disappointing that the only WCW/NWA induction this year was the Road Warriors, and even they are kind of a stretch.

Maybe they actually tried a lil continuity... towards the end of his career, Austin feuded w/ Booker T.

I don't think it's a coincidence at all.

I think it's a total coincidence.
WCW is so long-dead that I doubt it would even occur to Vince or any of the writing staff to besmirch its legacy at WWE's biggest show of the year.

I was confused to see the WHC match curtain jerk but in the end it turned out to be a decent opener for the event so can't really complain.
