And by extension, Edge/Jericho.
Seriously, the more I think about it the more it seems like the sole reason for the brief revitalization of the tag division in 2009-early 2010 was to elevate the belts enough so that DX could win the tag belts for their grand finale.
How else do you explain main eventers like Edge and Jericho and Show suddenly going after belts that have been treated like crap for the last few years, and then suddenly treating them as equally main-event worthy or at least as the significantly more prestigious titles that they should be? Suddenly they became worthy of being defended in the main event of Raw or Smackdown and a PPV staple, vs. being defended on Superstars or as a throwaway match before and afterwards.
Moreover, with the exception of ShowMiz, pretty much as soon as DX dropped the belts, the tag belts faded right back to the lower card, furthermore with the new Copper Penny belts, and only now with the Corre are they slowly starting to seem more than just belts for the Hart Dynasty to defend against Cryme Tyme or the Usos for the millionth time.
Though it does seem kind of grating that even after Jerishow spends months building up the prestige of the belts and treating them with respect, to get it built up enough so that it doesn't look like a step down when DX wins them, that Hunter and Shawn halfassedly carry the belts around, throw them around like just another torn DX t-shirt, and otherwise just kind of crap all over all the build-up. I get it's supposed to be rebellious, that it's supposed to be anti-authority, but it's kind of hard to be anti-authority when you're middle-aged and in the positions that HBK and HHH are in; but the relevance of the DX gimmick in this day and age is a whole 'nother thread.
