As a human being, sure, if he'd do something about the whole homophobic aspect of his character. As a wrestling personality? Not particularly, in my opinion. To be honest, the main reason I'm posting in this thread is to post this clip from The Day Today, which came to mind as soon as I saw the title. Ah the day today "Headlines tonight:Fist headed man destroys church. Car drives past window in town. And Leicester man wins right to eat sister. THIS IS THE NEWWWWWWWWS." This is a good question,im afraid in answering it i'll look awful but i'll try In my opinion cool doesnt have to mean that youre like steve austin this anti authortarian badass or whatever. It can just be like hulk hogan...hulk had big muscles and was an unstoppable force. That's cool to me. Someone who's upright morally and tough can be cool, look at babyface sting or ricky steamboat. Rey mysterio is a pretty squeeky clean guy...but he flies and flops and has a cool mask. When I was a kid I thought rey mysterio was one of the coolest things i've ever seen. He reminded me of spiderman. I think cool is subjective. Personally,do I find him cool? Not really. I like darker characters alot of the time. Im a batman guy,not a superman guy but I could perfectly see why someone would. He's a happy go lucky guy whos fan friendly and upright and is physically impressive and beats the hell out of people. He's the sort of guy that one aspires to be,a good guy whos also able to hold his own. Supermans part of the establishment too,but he's cool to people. As for it being a step back,I dont really believe thats putting it in the right context. Anti hero badasses became the norm,to be a fundementally decent guy was almost edgy in comparison. I know it seems annoying now,but I think when everybodies badasses with sunglasses people are going to be like"why arent they setting good morals for kids?" Hell,I remember a post on a usenet group or something complaining about how everybody in wrestling from the rock to the nwo tries too hard to be cool and how annoying it is. I think the reason why they changed course like that is because of that and just one simple thing. I think vince thought after years of cynicism and anger we needed a hero again. It was a way of trying and possibly failing to return that hope to wrestling again, and that might never happen but I think its worth a shot. Wrestling is so often deprived of joy for people,as evidenced by even some posts I see here(im not talking about you cj at all or anybody in this thread)and this is a pretty light hearted place but sometimes we're so wrapped in whether the booking for x and x isnt strong enough to even remember what brought us to the dance. It's simple. It was joy. If john cena makes kids happy, which i believe he does, then I'm fine with it. It'll change sooner or later in some way, wrestling always does. Our next top babyface might be a disco dancing tiger with a sexual attraction to crabs for all we know. That should be ted dibases new gimmick by the way.
