When you were a child, your favorite superstar was your favorite superstar for a reason. There was just something about this guy that made him cool
These wrestlers just had this aura about them, and now I look at the top face in the WWE and I don't see it. Honestly, I don't see why people like John Cena. I can see why people like Randy Orton, Triple H, The Undertaker, Edge or Christian but not Cena.
When I first started watching wrestling, The Undertaker was my favorite wrestler. The champion at the time was Shawn Michaels. I HATED Shawn Michaels. HBK at the time was the most pandering, obnoxious, prick I had ever seen. He's was too goody goody, and I wanted to see somebody beat the hell out of Jose Lothario. Vince always creamed himself over Shawn Michaels every time he would make a move. "SHAWN MICHAELS!!! AW YEAH! LOOK AT THAT!!!...UN-BELIEVABLE" "SHAWN MICHAELS, GETTING READY TO ROCK THE HOUSE"
I don't know, but I just always hated the overly nice, always doing the right thing good guy. Even as a child I hated it and I still do. It's like Vince McMahon is just possessed with making his top babyfaces the white meat babyface for whatever reason. I was more of a Psycho Sid, Undertaker, Steve Austin, Rock, DX kind of guy. They just had this intangible about them that made them cool
Now in 2011, I look at John Cena. Purple shirt. You Can't See Me. Hustle, Loyalty, Respect. Children in the shirts and... I just groan. Why is the top babyface still the all american good guy? Why aren't we passed that dammit!?! The more I think about it, it's like a step backwards. They go from: Squeaky Clean Pandering Babyface to the edgy, cool characters of The Attitude Era back to The Squeaky Clean Pandering Babyface? I don't know, there is just nothing "cool" about John Cena for some reason
thoughts?

When I started watching in 1999, I was 11 and The Rock was the coolest guy around but Mankind was my favourite as he was the nicest and I felt sorry for him because The Rock was always being mean to him.
Then a year or two later I loved Austin because he was just a crazy evil SOB..
So yeah, I can see why kids like Cena, I don't think he's cool but I might have when I was younger. You only have to watch the Disney channel to see jokes much more lame than Cena's.

I'd have to say that his character is the most uncool thing going, but Cena the man?
TAKING 30 MAKE-A-WISH KIDS TO WRESTLEMANIA. What's cooler than that besides doing so while ripping a face-melting solo on an electric guitar shaped like a shark.

From what I can see, he is a really really cool guy. The character isn't cool to me, but he's blatantly for the kids so thats understandable. I'll tell you this, I sure find myself rooting for him against the Rock. Rock is coming off like all the "PG sux" haters on the internet so I really want to see Cena stick it to him.

As a human being, sure, if he'd do something about the whole homophobic aspect of his character. As a wrestling personality? Not particularly, in my opinion. To be honest, the main reason I'm posting in this thread is to post this clip from The Day Today, which came to mind as soon as I saw the title.

I don't see how this is even a question. John Cena's character is the antithesis of cool. If WWE was high school, Cena would be playing the recorder in a sgt. pepper jacket or on Student Council, pushing a responsible recycling program. It's no knock on him, but you can't be "establishment" and "obedient" and be cool. By its very definition cool lends to counter-culture; those who don't give a shit, or don’t try too hard. Is Cena a good guy? Definitely. But he's absolutely not cool.

I think he's cool, but I thought Bret Hart was cool and they are cut from the same cloth.

I think he's cool, but I thought Bret Hart was cool and they are cut from the same cloth. Bret was cool though. He didnt pander, he was just a natural babyface. Cena is just lame though. We didnt have to listen to the Bret Hart comedy hour every RAW way back when.

When I was 12, HBK had won the WWE Championship and I was a HUGE fan of his. It's my understanding that the "smarks" hated him with a passion..but I guess I was one of the kids that loved him.
Looking back, if I was a kid, I would probably really like Cena. Now that I'm older, while I think he's a solid worker and his charity work is unrivaled, I find his character boring.
So to answer your question.."cool" is subjective. I do not find him "cool".

I didn't like Hogan as a kid, so I doubt I would have liked Cena.

Now? No way.
