The old guard is gone. It was something that I'd figured out for a while, but it only recently hit me. Edge retired just last month due to injury. Triple H nor Undertaker are going to be back anytime soon, and when they do come back, it won't be in a full time capacity. Similarly, Kane and Big Show probably aren't looking forward to be in the top spot anytime soon, Kane having explicitly said so much several years ago. Whether or not certain rumors are true, Rey's body probably won't permit him to be in the company too much longer. And all of this is not including the major players who've left over the past few years; notably Shawn Michaels and Batista in 2010, Jeff Hardy in 2009, the list goes on. Essentially, you're left with, as your stable main event, John Cena, Randy Orton, and CM Punk. Alberto Del Rio, The Miz, and (possibly) Christian are being booked to join them, but as of yet, they still aren't firmly placed.
What also hit me is that very soon, it might be possible to pinpoint exactly when the old guard left and when the WWE finally made the New Generation, if you will, the foundation of the company. Due to these circumstances, WWE will very soon be forced to build up a new upper-midcard and main event in the next two years. Sure, Sheamus and Swagger were pushed temporarily into the main event, but both suffered greatly from not being built up credibly beforehand. Sheamus currently is being built up, going through the mid-card and earning his stripes; Swagger, on the other hand, has more or less been floundering since the end of a very unspectacular world title reign last year.
So, who do you see being the breakout star(s) by WrestleMania 28, either becoming main eventers or beginning a buildup to become main eventers? The current major faces as of late (Miz, Del Rio), the popular midcarders (Rhodes, Barrett), the new faces from FCW and abroad (Mahal, Sin Cara), or could it be someone who isn't even on anyone's radar right now?

Wade already was one of their biggest breakout stars, but naturally they shat all over it.

I can't believe I forgot Bryan. I tried my damnedest to get everyone with even a remote possibility of getting a big push onto the poll; Ted DiBiase, Zack Ryder, even Evan Bourne. Sad thing about it, Bryan probably has a better chance that a lot of the guys I put on there, and he isn't even on the poll! If I like Danielson and even I overlooked him, imagine how WWE's gonna book him... One of the flaws of making a poll at four in the morning, I guess.

They have the talents. They just need to get behind them.
Daniel Bryan: One of, if not the best in ring worker in the company. Dont focus on trying to give him stupid "ladies man" gimmicks. Just let him wrestle.
Wade Barrett: The top heel of 2010, and he didnt lose that heat because he fumbled, he lost it because booking took it from him. Its one thing for the heel to lose, but they booked him into a hole.
Drew McIntyre: He has "the look", and is one of the most intense men on the roster.
Sin Cara: The man can fly. If you cant do anything with that, its your fault, not his.
Evan Bourne: Perfect underdog babyface. Sells everything like death. The guy that everyone can get behind.
John Morrison: I just think they need to give him the ball. He has stolen the show many times, and finally beat Shawn Michaels skinning the cat in 1995 for the most iconic Royal Rumble spot.
Dolph Ziggler: One of the best workhorses in the company. He works his ass off whenever he is in there. The hair should never have gone but he is hardly beyond repair.
Zack Ryder: The man oozes charisma and throws everything into his gimmick. When you have someone who tries this hard, its unfair to not give him a shot. The fans want him there.
Alberto Del Rio: Let him have the belt already. He has the potential to carry a brand as the top heel. He is such a natural heel its frightening.
CM Punk: Similarly, and currently the companys top heel, he needs a big title reign. Theyve never established him as a strong champion, and he doesnt feel like he is on Orton or Cenas level, which is unfair to him given the work he has put in.

Wade Barrett, in fact he already was the breakout main eventer until Kevin Dunn inexplicably decided he wasn't getting enough heat. Seriously, wasn't he listening to the crowd reactions? Wade was the most hated guy on the roster at one point.

It's not more iconic than Michaels. If he'd have won from it, yeah, maybe. But he was eliminated pretty early on.

I dont see anyone doing what Morrison did.

I vote Sheamus, Morrison, Barrett, Gabriel and Other (Bryan).
Diehard fangirls will be Justin Gabriel's biggest strength. His accent + his look + his moveset = he'll get over like a one-man boy band. The others have been given reasons here already.

If Justin Gabriel doesn't use Adam Lambert's cover of 20th Century Boy as his entrance music when he goes solo, I am offended.

Honestly I don't see anyone getting built up to the main event. I see it staying exactly the same as it is now, except maybe just a single person who'll flirt with it, which will probably be Mason Ryan.

Wade was the most hated guy on the roster at one point. Is that actually true? Or are you just assuming that after the whole Sheamus thing?
