That relies as much as it does on it's fans.. yet the people in it, seem to hate those very fans? (except the music business perhaps). Okay, i'll explain. I was listening to Colt Cabana's Art of Wrestling podcast and his guest was Zach Gowen. There was a point of the conversation which went something like this: Gowen: Yeah, you and Punk totally blew me off. I think you thought I was just some mark or something. Of course it doesn't apply to everyone, these things never do, there's people like Zack Ryder and The Miz to name just two relevant performers today that seem to genuinely like the fans. However there seems to be high proportion of wrestlers who's attitude is 'oh stupid marks!'. It's extremely condescending and yes there are some really stupid wrestling fans out there, but it's a bit uncalled for when we basically pay these guys salaries through tickets, merchandise, PPVs, etc. Just a thought that occurred to me, so.. discuss

I was going to go with that, but hell, the movie industry too.
And you're also using an example invoving CM Punk, who seems to be a tad bitchy.

Uh, when's the last time you talked to anyone in the service industry? On the other hand, if you hate your fans what the hell are you doing in wrestling? It's not like it's one of those crutch jobs you take when you need the money.

I am not sure they hate the fans, lets not forget 90% of wrestlers in companies were fans themselves growing up (not counting the diva models and bodybuilders hired in), but I imagine they get SWAMPED by fans constantly and it can be grating.
I get snappy at people if they say hello to me after not seeing me for years, I can't imagine streams of strangers wanting me to sign things, etc.

Yeah, i haven't met many wrestles who hated the fans. I think what it is, is when you get involved in the business you shouldn't act like a huge fan. You're a peer with these people and should act according. Plus it seems like Punk and Cabana rub people the wrong way as they always make bad first impressions it seems.

I think its the culture of the wrestling business. The wrestlers are the carnies, the cons, and the fans are the dumb marks who think its all real. Of course that doesn't really exist anymore, but the closed off secretive element of professional wrestling is what I think causes the wrestlers to have that attitude.

I don't think that Cena, Rock, Hogan... you know, successful guys, hate the fans
It seems like the ones who hate them are the guys who are sort of in the middle

I think some guy's hatred of fans goes back to the kayfabe days, and a "carny" mentality alot of the people in the biz had where fans are just marks you can make money off of.
And some wrestlers are just dicks...

I believe the fast food industry hates me. There is no other way to explain the KFC Double Down and the Triple Whopper.

Also pre-dominantly fans of Wrestling seem to be looked on or saddled up with...say... Comic book fans? Nerds. Essentially. It sucks but it's our lot as wrestling fans.
...I mean fans of entertainment.

It depends on the person, it's not the industry as a whole.
CM Punk was brought up, and it's just his personality, sometimes he just wants to be left alone. Brian Kendrick also talked about the fans paid money to see him wrestle, and he did that for them. Paul London, like, in the same interview talked about enjoying being open.
It's weird, there's a scale. At the high end, there's DDP, who from what I understand is the best in regards to fans, to the point where he helped get a mark, in Jimmy Yang, into WCW. Jimmy went trick or treating at age 16, showed up with a friend as WCW wrestlers, and eventually stayed in contact with DDP, helped put up his Christmas lights, and DDP eventually got him a job. In Jimmy Yang's interview, he talked about being nice to the fans, but he didn't think he himself would go that far for a fan. On the low end, I'm not sure of any particular wrestler, someone who is just doesn't like the fans and is just a mean person, period, or he has an incredible ego, or something like that. Stevie Richards for example just doesn't like giving autographs, that's not his thing. Hell, I'm the kind of person who doesn't like taking pictures with wrestlers, I don't like asking for autographs. I mean, if I'm talking to a wrestler and someone is offering to take a picture I wouldn't turn it down, but that's just me personally.
