Is Josh Mathews always a dick to Scott Stanford?

Today I watched the newest episode of Superstars for the first time in about a month. And throughout both of the Raw matches, Josh Mathews was being really mean to Scott Stanford. Saying that he messed up when he really didn't, telling him to just call the match when he was bringing up a superstar in the match's memorable moments, making jabs about him mumbling, just overall douchebaggery. And I like Scott Stanford a LOT, so it got on my nerves! Was this week atypical, or has it always been this way?

Matt Striker does the same thing with the guy he announces with. Both Striker and Mathews are douchebags on that show.

Yup. Early on when Stanford started improving by leaps and bounds Mathews kept giving him shit about mentioning that William Regal faced the British Bulldog at Halloweeen Havoc 93 during a match between Regal and David Hart Smith.

Michael Cole is a dick to Josh Mathews. Josh is a dick to Scott Stanford.
Jerry Lawler is a dick to Matt Striker. Striker is a dick to Jack Korpela.

This has happened a few times.

Josh is just trying to copy Cole, he started it on NXT by being a prick to Todd Grisham. Either that or the year of him finally getting on TV has really gone to his head. Maybe he's really insecure, so he's nice around the more experience people (Cole, Booker, King, JR) and feels the need to be a twat to those below him on the WWE ladder (Stanford, Grisham).

Stanford will get the last laugh when he's the new voice of RAW though

Ive noticed this with Matthews. He wants to be Michael Cole when he is on Superstars. He is good on Raw though. His call for the Falls Count Anywhere Miz/JoMo title match is one I always remember.

I thought they were just razzing the new guy. Stanford is pretty solid, but Vince has a track record of hating PBP guys who make obscure allusions.

Could be insecurity, in a few weeks Stanford surpassed Matthews (who is technically the veteran of the two) ability wise and there are only so many commentary spots available on the big shows.

Well Mr. Stanford is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and I do like Mathews so I just hope its them trying to work out a dynamic. If its any combination or influence of what Cole is doing I'm not a fan. That guy has approached awesomeness, jumped the shark, and then proceeded to beat the horse waiting for him on the other side into an unrecognizable paste.

Why was he a dick to Todd Grisham then? Though it wouldn't surprise me if he's been told to act this way, I think he's just trying to be Cole and failing miserably.

He's trying to be the cool arrogant one but with his whiny voice and stupid giggle he just sounds like a 12 year old moaning about everything, lol.

I know I'm in a minorty, but I can't stand Josh Matthews. To me, Play by Play voices should sound authorative, like Solie, Ross et al, not like a 12 year old child.

That's probably why he's a dick to Stanford, because Stanford is already better than him.

This post says it all. He does this horrid snort when he laughs sometimes too that he would call Vickie Guerrero on. Matthews bugs me royally.

He isn't even that good. Since he stopped being a geek who would call moves by indy names and refer to wrestler histories, he has gone downhill something drastic.

I honestly think Matthews is only employed because Vince wants younger commentators and feels Matthews brown noses enough to give him a shot.

Have to agree with this. I used to love Josh back when Velocity was around because he really knew both his WWE history and indie scene stuff, but since he got put back on commentary in 09 he's become just another WWE announcer.


Grisham has the better voice but Mathews puts over the stories better. And Stanford is superior to both of them.
