With Edge retiring and Christian getting the title shot against Del Rio at Backlash Extreme Rules, does Christian take the title and, in essence, Edge's top babyface spot?
Part of me hopes so, but the other half thinks that it sucks that it took Edge retiring to finally get Christian to that top part of the card.
Thoughts?

It's a shame we never got one last tag title reign for Edge & Christian, but if Edge retiring is what it takes for Christian to hit the main event, then so be it.
Edge has done all there is to do, anyway.

I don't think it would've been long before he was in the main event picture. But I think him being the top face boils down to whether or not there is gonna be a draft. And if there is, how the talent is redistributed.

Maybe. I hope he does. I think they've been building him up to something since he came back, and I really hope this is it.

Well it's not like he has much competition for the spot. And while Mysterio does get a bit better reaction than Christian does, I don't think it was ever in WWE's plans to make Rey the top babyface.

Smackdown now kinda reminds me of 2004 when eddie was super over and it took brock leaving to make him champion

I think they're going to try and see if he can fill Edge's shoes, particularly when riding on the momentum from Edge's sudden retirement.
If Christian isn't catching on and/or impressing management within the next 2-3 months, I expect he'll be consigned back to the midcard and we'll have someone else sent over from RAW to be the blue brand's new top face.

Christian's definitely been a long time coming, but honestly no matter who wins, I'll feel like a winner.

Edge: Not just any spot, not a dog spot or liver spot, but MY spot! Dammit, now I have no purpose in this thread. Although if WWE would know what was good for them, they'd have The Corre mock Edge's retirement speech next week.

I think it prevented any possible Christian heel turn.

It would make sense. Rey is the other face high on the card and surely he's going to be on the way out soon. Show or even the seemingly turned Kane would be a total waste, and I don't think Kofi has the momentum to be catapulted up the card that much. I definitely want to see Christian as champ, and it makes sense to take advantage of that momentum. I've been wondering if it would be best for him if ADR won it and he chased it for a few months, but it worries me that they'd want ADR's first reign to be convincing and Christian would get jobbed out to him.

I just hope they don't stick Orton on Smackdown just so he can get the belt.

Rey was supposed to take a break a year ago. And even if he were healthy, Vince has never/will never allow him to be the top face. Rey may be #1 in terms of popularity, drawing power, etc., but until now, he's always had 'Taker, Batista, Jeff Hardy, or Edge above him in the SD face hierarchy.
Big Show is a special attraction and occasional PPV challenger; Kane is basically a lesser version of Show. Kofi and Morrison both have little kayfabe credibility at the moment, and really, neither of them is anywhere near good enough to be the man, anyway. Fans would eventually buy Bryan as a top guy if WWE altered his character and let him cut loose, but I don't see this happening anytime soon.
The only heel I'd consider turning is Sheamus, who I think has a lot of potential as a top face. They should hold off on it, though -- it's too soon.
They'll go with Christian until at least the draft, at which point Orton is probably going to be moved to Smackdown. If they're happy with Christian, Orton turns heel. Otherwise, Orton remains a face and gets the belt.

I think that this is Christian's chance to prove that he can be a viable ME in the WWE, if it doesn't go all that well I expect him to drop back down the card and an established guy gets the spot with Del Rio.

As much as i would LOVE to see Christian win the big one at Extreme Rules, i want to see Alberto del Rio win the belt (cheating of course) and have Christian chasing him for some time.
