We hear that various wrestlers are getting heat backstage all that time for breaking some unwritten rule of something. So what are they? I know new talent is supposed to introduce yourself to everyone and that only long term vets like Taker and HHH are allowed to fly first class. Anything else?

I've always heard you're supposed to refer to a wrestler by their ring names at all times unless they grant you permission to use their real name.

The introduction thing applies everywhere I believe. Yeah, that's every promotion, everywhere. The reasoning behind it is everyone makes money together, and everyone relies on everyone else to make money. Undertaker and Triple H for example can't, and couldn't have made any money if there weren't people for him to go over. One is make sure your bag is in your proper locker room. Colin Delaney almost got heat for putting his bag in with the main eventers, and Tommy Dreamer went in there, grabbed his bag, brought it to the locker he was supposed to be in, and told him not to do that again because you might get heat. So sometimes the rules can be bent with certain people, and those people can help you out, or you could help others out.

Pro wrestling backstage law is petty and stupid. The first class rule is incredibly stupid.

Was it true that Dolph Ziggler somehow went over the top with introducing himself and as a result wound up with the gimmick on TV or was that just newz?
It does seem stupid enough to be true.

Pro wrestling backstage law is petty and stupid. The first class rule is incredibly stupid. To be fair with the first class rule, it's usually reserved for people helping make the company money, or people who have been in the business longer. There's a story where Bill Demott got pissed off at Christian for trying to get a first class seat before Raven in 2001. Bill was pissed because Raven had put more time into the business, and just because he was lower on the roster then Christian, he shouldn't try and get the seat over him. Raven wanted to then give the seat to Bill because Bill was in the business longer then him, but Bill just wanted to make a point. So yeah, that's another reason why Tough Enough is interesting with Bill. My issue with the first class thing is, it shouldn't apply to just main eventers, but guys who have been in the business longer as well. Just because Funaki was jobbing for most of his career, doesn't mean that he shouldn't deserve a first class seat, because he put in time with the company, and in wrestling, and with helping get other people over. Was it true that Dolph Ziggler somehow went over the top with introducing himself and as a result wound up with the gimmick on TV or was that just newz? It does seem stupid enough to be true. I'm not sure, but Austin hugging people in 2001 was a rib on DDP, because he did that to Vince when he showed up. But Austin also enjoyed ribbing DDP, so that may've just been him.

Quite a lot of it seems a bit petty. Is that stuff true though, about ring names? I thought wrestlers had to refer to each other by their ring names at all times anyway to keep kayfabe; I have also heard that many wrestlers choose to remain in character at all times to help their gimmick. The Million Dollar Man was always given the best accommodation for that reason.

Pro wrestling backstage law is petty and stupid. The first class rule is incredibly stupid. Indeed. I kind of understand the hand-shaking thing, just as a measure of respect, the rest of the frat boy bullshit is just stupid.

Unless you're 2 Cold Scorpio keep your pants on I've heard that Raven falls under "exception" to this rule, as well.

From what I heard:
Don't disagree with the Undertaker.
Divas must always have sex with main eventers who want to (especially Batista, when he was there).
Well-respected wrestlers may take a dump on your stuff if they feel you deserve it, or if only for a joke.
Wrestler must actually be a non-wrestling fan.
If a real-life fight happens, wrestler must win.

One of the big ones I've seen basically boils down to "If a guy's been in the business longer than you, and he plays a prank on you, you better just suck it up with a smile on your face, no matter how petty or mean spirited or outright weird it is."

I kind of understand the hand-shaking thing, just as a measure of respect, the rest of the frat boy bulls*** is just stupid. Stupid, but not unexpected. It is a locker room, after all. I've heard that, outside of WWE, you aren't supposed to wear kickpads unless you've wrestled in Japan, but I have no idea if that is true or not.
