Man, I view the world differently or something because I really didn't like about half of that Iron Man match against Cena. The first 30 minutes are pretty good but then it stops dead.
Then there's also what may possibly be the dumbest spot in wrestling history with Orton trying to kill Cena with pyro. My God.

vs. Foley at Backlash will be one of his best matches, no doubt. It's in my top 5.
I will also add in vs. HBK at Survivor Series 2007. That was a bloody tremendous match.

They don't call him Randy Boreton for nothin'
I still prefer his matches to any of Cena's. I cannot fathom how anybody can enjoy Cena overselling for an entire match and then hitting the same spots EVERY single damn time he steps into the ring.

I remember one of my favorites was the match he had against Edge on Raw in 2007 I thought it was an underrated little gem

Orton Wrestles an Old School style, meaning sometimes it doesn't click with certain wrestlers.

Hardly ever takes a bump.
Takes timeouts constantly to catch his breath -- easy tumble out of the ring and then he's gone for 5-10 minutes -- which is why he's constantly booked in no-DQ or multi-wrestler matches.
And watch him when he gets "knocked" or "thrown" or "bumped" out of the ring -- he always lands on both feet, then does a stop-drop-and-roll.
To me, he's one of the least realistic guys out there.
Great physique, lot of charisma, but for the life of me I'll never see what VKM saw in him that elevated him to the top of the card for so long.

Honestly the only Orton match I liked was his mania match with Taker.

It's interesting...people on the 'net say he's below average in the ring, but other wrestlers often say he's the best. maybe he's technically sound. Maybe he's just not going to botch. Skill wise I don't think he's below average if you're talking about his mechanics

I think he's a great worker and has gotten light years better than when he started. It's just for him to have classic matches he needs someone like a Foley, Benoit, etc. to work with him.
His match with Foley at Backlash is easily his best.
I honestly feel Orton would of had an amazing match with Bret Hart in his prime.

I really like Orton and most the the matches mentioned here. His problem is IMHO: His style doesn't click with every worker on the roster. For example, his matches with Cena are all very good while his matches with Triple H went pretty horrible (except their LMS match at No Mercy '07). He's a decent worker who just can't work with everyone.

I thought Orton vs. Punk from this year's 'Mania was a great match. I'm honestly surprised more people aren't mentioning it, maybe some people didn't like it because Punk lost? Another one was his match against Undertaker. I think that was the last one where people really thought 'Taker might lose.
Orton is an odd case to me, where I feel he's maybe a tad overrated in general yet vastly underrated by this forum.

In terms of story telling, I think the Iron Man match against Cena was freaking amazing. That was when the viper character REALLY worked, and when he tries to literally BLOW CENA UP it's pretty sensational. Im with you... His story telling with cena was great, and id have to say taker and punk as well...

Yeah, I'd go with his Iron Man match against Cena at Bragging Rights over a year ago. That might have been cause I was there though...it was great live at least.

I can think of several but for the first few: Orton vs. Edge Ic Title Match, Foley in a hardcore match, vs. Benoit for the world heavyweight title, vs. John Cena in an Iron Man Match, vs. Jeff Hardy at the Royal Rumble, vs. the Undertaker at Mania, vs. HBK at survivor series.'
Orton is a main event guy because he can have great matches.

Off the top of my head; vs Foley at Backlash 04 and vs Cena at Breaking Point 09.
And I really enjoyed his series of matches with Sheamus over the Title as well.

It's interesting...people on the 'net say he's below average in the ring, but other wrestlers often say he's the best. Thing with Orton is, he "gets" it. Even alot of top wrestlers just don't quite get it until one day it clicks. Orton is a magnificent worker, everything is worked into his matches with a purpose and his greatness will be remembered when all is said and done. He has improved hugely over the last few years. He doesn't work the most exciting style, he's old school but he is incredibly talented.

I remember a match with RVD around 2003 that I believed was his first really good match. I can't remember if the Intercontinental title was involved.

Backlash '04 vs Foley. Though I thought the Triple Threat match at Wrestlemania 24 was pretty good.

I was going to mention the Mick Foley match, but of course I was beaten to it. Even with that match, I'd say it was good, but not an all time classic or anything.
