Hey guys, I have something to ask you.
Like many of you, whenever I watch wrestling at home, I am usually critical of what I see. Though for the most part, I am entertained, but I am still critical at time.
Here's the rub, though. Whenever I go to live events (and especially Wrestlemania next week), I become a kid again. I cheer all the good guys, boo all the bad guys, and I just go to have a good time, and recapture part of my rapidly fading youth ;-)
Does anyone else do that?
Brian~

I haven't been to a live show in nigh on ten years, but naw. I cheer for who I like. I don't make smark-y comments or criticize the workrate of the match, but whenever Stevie Richards would come out for a Jakked match, I'd cheer my head off.

The live crowd really takes you back to why you like wrestling in the first place: the contrasting styles, the simple storyline of good versus evil.
I was at a WWF show in 2001 where I was the only guy cheering on Raven against RVD. I'm dead serious; RVD is just THAT OVER to the point I was thinking "Maybe I should jump on the RVD bandwagon too." (Then again, I was wearing my Raven WCW shirt, my flannel tied around my waist and the denim shorts - it was pretty obvious who I was siding with.)

Live Shows do that to you. You can pretend to be as smarky as you want at home, but at a Live Show, you become ten years old again.

Surprisingly, I'm smarkier at house shows then I am in front of my TV. Doesn't hurt my brother and I call the action from our seats and 7 times out of 8 actually entertain the people around us.

I did this a lot at CHIKARA shows back when I went. Somewhere there was even a review of one show that talked bad about some other fans who were being smarky and rude to the detriment of the show, as opposed to me and my buddies who were smarky but helpful to the show. If any of that makes sense.

To a point. If the heel is just really entertaining and the face is the shits, I'll end up cheering the heel. It's a little hard for me sometimes because I'm naturally a fan of heels and I'll sometimes imagine possibilities if I was managing the heel in question.
But I'll usually at least begin a match by cheering for the face and just having fun.
Smarky crowds tend to turn me off. I don't care who someone cheers for, but the chanting usually gets to be a bit much. Especially when they chant for EVERYTHING. Maybe it's just me, but it distracts me from what's going on in the ring, at least to the point that I can't completely focus on it and go into my own little world, which is what I like to do.

The last show I went to, I was cheering Batista when he was a face. I can't stand Batista, but when you're there I think you should just go with it. And I was kind of pissed at the guys next to me, who were being all smarky. Why even go, and ruin it for everyone else?

I haven't been to a live show in 7 years, but when I do go I always end up in full blown mark mode. Hardcore Ass was the first tag team out at the last Smackdown taping I was at and I marked like a motherf***er even tho I'm not even a huge fan of either guy

I haven't been to a live show since I was like 12 so I've yet to experience a show in my "smarky" days. I was thinking the other day though, if I went, I think I would cheer for the faces etc. Because usually after watching a Raw I feel all disappointed after, so if I'm paying for a live show, I might as well have fun.

ESPECIALLY when Hogan came back to feud w/Orton. When he came out and did his hand to ear thing...shit, it was like I was 7 years old again. Helps that I've never seen him live to that point.

Helps that I've never seen him live to that point.[/quote] I came to post almost the exact same story. Mine was a house show that was originally advertised as Hogan/Flair on the ticketmaster, it was changed to Hogan/Angle during the time Angle was wearing the wig with his headgear. I'd seen almost all of the guys I'd wanted to see live, and figured I'd never catch Hogan, so when he came out, I went apeshit like some 8 year old on a case of pixy stix. It didn't even matter that I was firmly in camp Angle, I was going off for the Hulkster. Felt great.

Pretty much this exactly, except without the manager part since I am not a manager For me, when I'm in an indy crowd I always cheer the faces when they come out (unless I REALLY hate them, and there are some guys that I can't stand enough that I just sit there on my hands when their music hits), and if there's a heel I like enough, I'll cheer him or her too, or depending on my mood I might decide to have fun boo and hiss and insult them. During the actual course of the match I'm 100% on the face's side (again, unless I hate the face enough).

I almost always do this because I always end up seated next to kids. Sometimes I have to cheer for the heel though, depending on who it is.
Sometimes I boo random things though, like I booed Tony Chimel when he mentioned The Chaperone.

I'll always remember being at an indie show and cheering a heel, only to have a 4 or 5 year old kid in front of me turn around, give the stare down, and say, "Do you want a piece of me?" I managed to keep a straight face, held my hands up, and say, "No, I sure don't," and wait for him to turn around before I started laughing. I thought it was awesome.
